I was also debating on trading in my 4Runner for a better mileage car. At the end of the day I just enjoy the looks and my 4Runner too much. I am willing to sacrifice some gas for it.
Should I trade 4R ORP for a Rav4 Hybrid ?

My only experience with the RAV4 was a test drive in 2020. I cannot tell you if you will regret the decision or not that is up to you to decide, but I can tell you my thoughts on the vehicle. The RAV4 is from the ground up an economy vehicle and it drives like such not much power and a very uneventful drive. I would imagine that if you find the 4Runner to feel too heavy or handle too truck like, you may prefer the RAV4 it is like a car with a somewhat higher seating position. The 4Runner feels more substantial and rugged, the RAV4 feels light and economical it all depends on what you want from your vehicle. To me the 4Runner invokes emotion and exploration, the RAV4 invokes... well less stops at the gas station, wich is a good thing too.

We traded our ‘19 XLE rav4 for our 4th gen 4Runner.
As many have said, only you can make the decision for you if this is a right trade. If I had to do it again, I’d still trade the rav4 for the 4Runner. While the rav does offer better gas mileage, the Rav feels like a car that’s trying to be a SUV, rather than the 4Runner which is a full on SUV.

I'm on the opposite side of this. We have a '20 RAV4 Hybrid and I'm considering trading it in for a 4Runner. I've always liked the 4Runner and when we were shopping for a vehicle 3 years ago we were deciding between the 4Runner and the RAV4.
I like the gas mileage it gets since it's a hybrid. What I don't like is it feels so small compared to our other vehicle which is an Acadia AT4. I also don't like the annoying sound it makes when it's in EV mode when backing up or going forward slowly. I would never dare take it off-road despite it being AWD.
We just moved across the country and are now in an area that gets winter weather. I'd also like to start camping soon and have dreamed of building an over-landing vehicle. I had considered a Subaru but for the same reason I dislike it on the RAV4, it has a CVT transmission.
I just like the look and capability of the 4Runner. It's a gas guzzler but then again I don't drive much so that may be a moot point. Insurance will be cheaper on a 4Runner vs the RAV4.
The RAV4 has held its value quite a bit so that will help offset the cost of a 4Runner. We will have a new driver within the next few years so I'm curious how this will be teaching a new driver with this vehicle.

My wife drives a 2021 RAV4 XSE (hybrid). During the winter, we run some KMC wheels and Falken Wildpeaks (245/65/17), giving it a much tougher look. We've had the RAV4 for nearly 3 years and it gets around 38mpg combined.
We just got back from a 7 day family trip to CO/UT. I rented, via Turo, a 2023 TRD Pro.
I really enjoyed driving the 4Runner, and was doing the math in my head on how I could get into one. I didn't want to sell my truck, and trading off my 2023 Camry Hybrid would cost me about $2700/yr in fuel. With that in mind, I thought about getting my wife a new car and then I could drive her RAV4 to get my SUV kicks. Needless to say, when we got back to the airport and I drove home, the RAV4 is nothing like driving a 4Runner. I think we're waiting for the Land Cruiser at this point....

Did you prefer the 4Runner over the RAV4 or was it the other way around?

I preferred ride, size, feel and seating position of the 4Runner. The RAV4 drove and accelerated like a car, with easily twice the MPG. Hugely different vehicles.
Yeah, the current 4Runner powertrain is an absolute dog. Horrible gas mileage and acceleration is pretty underwhelming unless you thrash the engine (and God knows it doesn't sound very good when you do).
I definitely think the Land Cruiser and the 2025 4Runner will have a power train more to your liking with regards to overall performance.

I also have a full size truck(Ram 2500) for my slide in camper that we use for snowboarding and dirt bike trips but have a 4Runner for my daily driver. I've had different cars that had better mileage as my daily driver but never really liked them. I love the size of the 4Runner. Sure it's under powered and the gas mileage isn't great but I enjoy driving it so that's all that matters to me.
