Hi Everyone,

I'm about to pull the trigger on a 4runner, and wanted some professional advice...

1999 4runner Limited Edition
Desert Dune with Silver Trim
Exterior condition: Good/Excellent
Interior condition: Fair/Good (Leather has tear on driver seat cushion: 4 inches, everything else looks fine)
140,000 miles
New Tires
Belt, pump, wires replaced at 95,000 miles.
Locking Rear Differential
Won't go lower than $6,000
Edmunds TMV puts it at $6,700 private party value under "Good" condition.

Do I wait for another, or is this a pretty good deal?

considering that's one of the most desirable 4runner in the 3rd gen arena yeah, but i'm bias...lol

you should see if it has the tall coils on it, does it sit a little bit higher then other 4runners?

besides that 6K seems like a fair price, but to be honest price is related to geography so only people around you can answer that, so either hop on the CL and do a search and see what else is out there and compare, or get that one....
 
You'll have to get some local prices. It sounds GREAT to me. I spent 9500 on a one owner 98 limited with rear locker. There high where I'm at because you just don't see very many 4runners.

Thanks, I'm not sure about the coils. I thought all 99's came with the taller coils. Anyway, does the higher mileage spook anyone?

try to grind him some more i got my 98 limited at 4500 took me two hours of grinding the owner from 5700 to 4500
 
Do it! Sounds like a nice rig!.......

You can grind most private sellers, but there are quite a few people that I know who would jump on that particular deal for 6K....

Personally I would just drive over to his place with 5K in cash and hand it to him..

It takes a strong dude to hand the cash back at that point..

Thanks for all the feedback. There is one minor detail involved. He is located 4 hours away, and he said he'd be willing to drive to me if he could tell I was very interested. Having said that, I'd hate to make the guy drive 4 hours, and then show up with $5K instead of what he's asking. What do you think?

drive there with 5K in your hand and another 1k in your pocket, leave for an hour if you must have lunch then go back and offer him $5500, lol



still 6K is a good deal.

and to respond to your earlier question no not all '99 limiteds came with the "magic coils"
 
the low down on coils

BEtter yet : The 3rd Gen 4Runner was introduced in 1996 and apparently Toyota was not pleased with the original front coils as they were changed for the 1997 model year even though no significant changes were made to the 4Runner. These coils ran from 1997 to 1998. In 1999 Toyota added the extra crush zone up front and the fat lip front bumper to facilitate it. Things were good and the 1999 4Runner sat higher than any 3rd Gen 4Runner to date. At the same time the Ford Explorer/Firestone Tire blowout/rollover media blitz hit. Toyota reacted by yanking the 2000 model year down lower mid production very early in the 2000 model years run. The 2001 and the 2002 are without a doubt the "Low Rider" 4Runners. This kit takes the best the factory had to offer in 1999 and applies it to every 4Runner from 1996 to 2002, 2WD and 4WD. The 2WD trucks will go up 2" from where they sat new and 4WD trucks will go up 1" from where they sat new. Does every 1999 have these magic coils? No way, only a few did and the chances of finding them in a junk yard is possible but, it is very slim that you find a 1999 and only a 1999 with the specific options factory installed, not dealer installed.

Yeah, that puts things into a completely different perspective. That would be a total butt-fugging move to do that. If he's driving 4 hours to you, then you should come to a price agreement ahead of time and stick to it. Why don't you drive out to him and make your $5K offer? Have $6K with you just in case, but only offer $5K and you can always drive home if you can't come to an agreement with him. But keep in mind that he has the upper hand if he knows you're willing to drive 4 hours to see the vehicle, so you might have to do a little acting on your part to make him accept less than his $6K bottom line.
 
6k is a very fair price. I bought my 98 July of 08 with a 150k on it, it just turned 202k and no issues at all and I wheel it very often. In fact I have taken it out every weekend the past two months. I am going to be doing the ball joints and tie rod ends but that is just normal maintenance. There are quite a few people on here that have gone 250k and 300k+

He's driving up tonight. I'm not planning on playing hardball. This guy seems to be going out of his way for me so I'll give him a break. $6K is fair I think. I'll let you know if I'm a proud new owner tomorrow...

dam, hard to tell you can get a measure tape out and see how height it sits ground clearance for the '99 was eleven inches, like i said i own a '99 with the longer coils so am unsure of the height without, do a search on here.

i know pike knows if he gets back on here
