This is Oliver our 2.5 year old Beagle. We rescued him from medical research where he was used to test drugs. Before we got him he had never been outside, walked on grass or anything a dog gets to do. He has turned out to be a great dog. Just loves to be loved.

That's really sad. To many dogs in situations like this. You're a saint for saving him.

Rescue dogs are the best!!! We have always gotten our dogs from kill shelters rather than the "rescue" groups that are no kill. I feel better knowing that the dogs really are rescued and there is no weird house inspection, interview, legal paperwork stuff. IMO some of the so called rescue groups are run by nazis
. Anyway...How did you manage rescuing from medical research? Most test animals are put down after testing...just curious if this was something that other people could do.

We did not physically rescue him from the medical research. Someone else had saved him and 20 other beagles and dispersed them throughout the counties Humane Societies. We were really in the right place at the right time to be able to get him as there were only 3 available at the time we were there.

I for some dim witted reason did not think they used dogs to test drugs. i thought they used rats or some other being.. I had no idea they tested Dogs... what a shame.. good thing you were there when you were

Oh you can only imagine what dogs have to go through for different animal testings... sadly beagles are one of the top testing breeds.

Thats so Sad.... beagles huh? wonder what makes them so special... cost?availability? something in their genes?... I would like to have a "chat" with the persons who gets up every morning and goes to work to do this to a dog AND sleep well at night..

See what they get for being just 'happy dogs'! Oh and if you feed your dog Iams dog food, you might want to do research on the beagles they use for testing. Bet you'd change your mind real quick about that food.

Jo is my third dog but my first was a heeler as well.

Yeah, she is SUPER smart! I got her from the pound less than a year old, and its like she understands english(and spanish), i dont have to train her on a specific command for her to know what i am asking of her. Jo's coloring is called 'merle', which means the really dark, variegated pattern. The 'traditional' blue heeler is actually closer to Calidog. Both beautiful,and such great dogs. Theres no way i could ever own a not-quite-as-smart dog after having a heeler.
