x2 on Perkin Performance's quality. Like SeattleMike, I too considered the gobi but after talking with Jason and seeing his work I decided to have him build me one to fit my needs.

I cut down my Kargo Master "Safari" rack to fit better. It was too wide and just didn't look right even after I flipped the top cage around. They are made for a Jeep and are 52" W x 60" L, which doesn't fit the 3rd Gen at all.

I also remounted it using the mounts that came with it, by reusing the factory rail "nuts". Way better than mounting it to the factory cross bars which didn't look good at all.

I cut the base down 6" on each side and cut 10" out of the center. I bolted the top cage back together and now it fits just right.

Safari rack Cut down and welded to mounts and then rivnuted the roof and installed the rack. Paid 125 after materials to install and help welding it together.

The Rolas look really good after a little fab work to drop them lower and get it off the flimsy OEM cross bars.

Just mounted a basket yesterday to my oem crossbars. I was told by a guy that they aren't very strong. My basket it only 20# and I figure I'll basically only have my deflated pontoon boat (45#ish) up there. These should be able to support up to 100# though, no?

thoughts?

It's only something I'll have on for camping which is only a couple times a year maybe a week or two at a time.

I read somewhere that they are rated for 130-165# depending on the generation. You should be fine.

Kakuno, this is a bit difficult to answer not knowing the manufacturer of the basket. I've had a few different baskets, and not one had less than a 160lb weight capacity (evenly distributed). The one I currently use is a Gobi and the weight cap is in excess of 300lbs. I would check any/all labeling on your rack for some indication. If not available, my next route would be determining the manufacturer and then checking their site for your model, or contacting them direct. My personal opinion, you should be okay with what you're expecting to carry, but better to be safe and confirm.

The basket is rated for 250# but my concern was the oem cross braces. I should have specified.

This is my second rack for a different truck of course. I used black gasket sealer when joining them and I haven't had any rust problems at all.

Yakima Megawarrior with extension

Mounted a Yakima Megawarrior with extension this weekend. I tweaked the included mounting hardware and bolted it to my rails, bypassing the weak factory crossbars.

How are the Rolas holding up? Checked them out on amazon and there were a lot of reviews of rust.

Those reviews would be accurate... As long as you refinish/treat the rack somewhat regularly, they should be fine. Also, it is probably better to leave it in the garage until you need it for a trail run or camping trip. It makes having it a bit more of a PIA. But, it will last a lot longer...
