here I made this about a year and a half ago. its all galvanized 1x1 with an expanded steel deck. I could haul enough beer for the whole party...hehe this thing is ten times what you could buy in a store... I am contemplating putting a schrader valve in the wall of a tube and weld up the ends so it can double as an air tank.. could be useful at the beach or to get a tire re inflated.. ya ya ya I know its needs to be cleaned and painted so dont even bother with that.

Just mounted it last weekend and it'll have a trial run in a few weeks on our next Boy Scout camp out. Not sure I want to put the ladder on for that. I can see one of them in particular falling off the roof onto my hood.

How much height did the Gobi add to your rig? I want it to fit in my garage and concerned about clearance

WMW is no longer making the roof racks. He was sued (or threatened to be sued) by Gobi. This lawsuit (and the ridiculously high price) is why many forum members dislike Gobi.

I still may buy a Gobi Stealth roof rack for my 3rd Gen one day, but I will also consider the roof rack from Infidel Garage... it really looks nice.

So I've had a roof rack design rollin around in my head for a little while now... I wanted a low profile, full length rack and I couldn't find one that I liked for less then 1500. So....

Last week I pulled the trigger and bought 250 bucks of steal, borrowed a welder, learned to weld, and just went to town. I'm pretty stoked at how its turning out!

Still more work to be done, but for not being a designer or welder, I'd say its coming along as best as I could have hopped.

Also I'm trying to figure out the best way to mount it into the existing tracks on my 3rd gen if anyone has any insight.

You did a really good job, especially being your first project on this level. The only problem I see is the weight. I figure you will have to drill holes and make dang sure you have adequate support around the bolts. If you find yourself having to come to an abrupt stop, that rack loaded may fly off without the right backing.

My most recent Runner came with an Arksen 64" rack already installed, so I looked it up on Amazon to read reviews. Found it was pretty cheap, $120, but decent overall. Sturdy, I can yank the shit out of it and only the truck shakes back and forth. Overall, about 80% 4/5 star (good) reviews out of 421 total, and about 11% 1 or 2 star (negative) reviews. I read those and found a common theme among many budget racks: Rust prone, low qual. hardware, possibly difficult to assemble.

With the Arksen, it easily rusts inside the bars, water gets in, drains and leaves rust stains on roof of your truck, etc. Anyone have this rack? Should I care, or upgrade to the $350 Yakima LoadWarrior? I'm in Colorado, relatively no rain, and only a few snow days. (I have a sunroof, so it must be short enough for that, and for the hatch to fully open.)

TMT 4x4 full length. Super sketched out about buying from another relatively unknown Venezuelan company, but I've had no issues with the company or the product yet. It arrived in 3 weeks in a thick plywood box with everything individually wrapped. No missing hardware either.

Have only mounted an awning to it so far, but it uses T-Slotted crossbars and has plenty of cutouts in the side profiles so I dont anticipate on having any issues mounting my Maxsas, hi lift, shovel or ax.

The Baja Rack replaces the factory roof rack. Remove the end caps, slide the old cross bars out, slide mounting brackets in and then bolt basket to low profile mounts. I believe they are in the low $400 range.
