So it's wider than it is long? Something doesn't sound right...

Yeah I found its the 52widex50long which is for direct mounting to a Jeep rollbar. Its the oddball of them all, but for $75 I couldnt pass it up. I threw it up there today and it hangs a bit over on each side. If I turn it "sideways" it fits a little better.
I'm going to look at it and maybe mod it so it sits 50x52.

I installed my Rola Vortex today! For those of you that leave your racks installed, how do you "lock" them to your vehicle?

I'm replacing the included knobs with M8 x 1.25 nuts and washers, but do you guys add any type of lock or anything?

Thanks!

Just reposting my question about locking a rack to the vehicle...

I replaced the knobs with ny-loc nuts and it would take a while to get them undone, but do any of you use some type of a lock to secure the rack?

Thanks!

How come you didn't get the extension? It looks great though anyway.

As far as your question goes I don't have it locked. I just have it secured with the stuff it came with.

Since were talking about racks (I'll post up mine when I get some pics), where is a good (inexpensive) place to get a high lift jack and axe/shovel accessory kit? Most I've come up with are in the $60-80 each price range. Seems a bit steep for a couple of metal brackets.
Thanks

I just made this rack for my '85 4runner. The whole truck will be camo soon. Had to paint the roof first before attaching the rack. Holds a spare nicely with room for gas cans! A good weekend project.

Kargo Master Safari rack I found on Craigslist. The light bar is off a Dodge Ram that the dealership installed on a coworkers truck. It ended up bolting right to the rack.
I had to take the rack apart and turn it sideways as its originally made for a Jeep rollcage and is 52" wide by 50" long. I turned the top portion so its now 50"w x 52" long. I simply drilled holes in the bottom bar and bolted it to the bottom frame.
The Kargo Master mounting kit is a horrible design so I just drilled the stock crossbars and bolted it on.
I painted it all with BBQ black as the rack and light bar were different gloss shades and I like the flat look anyway.
Its a bit wide but I dont think it looks too bad.

Another craigslist find for me. Came with a spare tire mount and hi-jack lift attachment.

Just got my Baja 5th Gen flat cargo rack and I am loving it! Finally a solution for the kayaks. They are much easier to get on and off and they tie down nicely with no need to tie the bow or sterns down. Bit of noise at 30 mph with the sunroof open. Quite with the sunroof closed. With the Yakima attachments on it the rack is quiter at highway speeds then when I had the Yakima bars on the factory rack.

Surfboard Racks

Does any one have any experience using soft (strap) surfboard racks on the T4R? My is an 2002 SR5. New to T4Rs, been a pick up guy for years, trying to avoid and steep and potentially costly learning curve.

Thanks

MJ

Soft surfboard racks

I was wondering if anyone had used them on a T4R with any success. I realize the factory crossbars will have to come off. I just need something in the interim until I decide what aftermarket rack I want

My New 4Plus Roof Rack!

Just picked up my custom built roof rack from 4Plus and I love it! It's freakin' huge but it is exactly what we wanted. It fits our 7ft. long OzTent, MaxTrax, Up to 32 Gallons of fluids in RotoPax, HiLift, Shovel, ARB Awning (if it ever arrives - What's up, ARB?!) and still has some room for some other extras, hopefully our Snow Peak camping table. All of the latches are integrated in the bed planks along with the flexibility of easily moving them for multi use.

It uses the existing roof mounts from the factory rack and Dave kindly cut a 4Runner logo in to some of the panels
