Show us your roll bar set up

can anyone please guide me to a tutorial on how exactly I need to modify (cut and weld) this roll bar from a 1st generation '85 4Runner to install into my 3rd generation '96 4Runner?

This is what I used. Cut 2" and reweld the plate. Then drill the holes in your floor, and cut slits in your carpet for the bolts. And it's much easier with two sets of hands.

picked one up off craigslist for 40. Chopped the 2" and tossed it in the back to get an idea of what i have. Just need to get the mounting plates welded and install it. Will probably try to mock up some additional plates for the underside of the sheet metal as soon in the write-up above.

Mine's going to be similar, but the drawer system is going to be removable, incase I need to put the seats down to fit some stuff in.

Did mine today... Holy hell, I was shocked at how thin the sheet metal actually was in the wheelwells... Used the biggest plate I could find to spread the load.. Otherwise I love it, will be mounting my fire ext, mag lite and first aid box

Im gonna have to lean towards Park on this one haha. You could easily find one for a lot cheaper alot closer. Just start calling junk yards and asking if they have any 1st gen 4runners.

It really wasn't to bad once the inside was completely disassembled, if you know your way around a tube bender. Lucky for me I have a good pal that does. It cost many, scratch that many many 30 packs. I have a write up on pirate under FMF build, but basically we made a halo and dropped 8 legs off it. We tied in to the factory dash cross bar then extended to the floor to give it more strength. Thx, it turned out real good.

Did you tie into anything structural or just go to the body? Nice ORIs by the way

At the "A" and "B" pillar it will be plate sandwiched by body. Plate to body then plate under body tied into frame/sliders. "C" pillar welded to body. "D" pillar tied to rear frame/rear bumper.

Did you find yours from another type car or have it made? I'm looking for one and keep looking on different sites, but trying to narrow down what type vehicle to fine to get one from. I've found a couple for $100, is that too much or should I keep looking?

They came on some 1st gen 4Rs. $100 is way too high for one, I've seen them go for $20 here in CFL before, just never though it would be as useful as this thread shows.

It's been a few years since I installed mine, and I'm still extremely happy with it. I carry a lot of wheeling gear, and it keeps everything organized and easy to get to.

Here is how it looks after a couple years of wheeling, and changing stuff around.
