Shrockworks 5th Gen Rear - Round 2

We are meeting up in the morning to get a few more product pictures.

As for removing the swing out, the entire thing can be removed by pulling the 1" bolt that acts as the hinge but I would recommend at least pulling the tire off separately because the weight of all the accessories can certainly add up.

Do you loose ability to have a tire under the truck?

Great work! Product looks outstanding! Looking forward to more pics until I can get one in my budget...babies and wives are expensive.

And hrod79, your question has been answered if you read the thread. You do not lose the ability to keep the spare under the vehicle.

More pics...

Hey all... here are a few more pictures. This time, we have the rig configured with dual jerry cans and have also mounted the receiver.

Also... someone had asked to see a full profile shot. It's rather hard to see both bumpers. I think this one is about as good as it can be.

More about the factory spare tire mounting

Hey all... a few last thoughts about the factory spare tire mount. I know that Justin mentioned that it can remain intact. (In my case, we used bolt cutters to cut off the dangling chain.) BUT... then it dawned on me... it has to be raised and lowered. On the factory bumper, there's a small hole in the plastic bumper that you have to insert the rod through to raise or lower the unit. This new bumper (at least my prototype) doesn't allow for this. So even though the mount can remain, it could not be actuated. But... having said this, I could not imagine anyone wanting to keep the tire under the truck. The factory bumper covered most of it up, but with the new bumper, you would see it completely... would look horrible. Plus... leaving the tire down there would severely limit the improvements in departure angle.

While the weather is nice out, would you mind snapping a picture of the bumper with the rear hatch open, focused on the area around the lock (i.e. center-top of the bumper)? I'm curious to see how it handles the transition from the bumper to the body there.

Thanks!

You're probably right about being able to see it more and it looking bad, but if I ever got one of these bumpers I would still consider keep the stock location, at least while daily driving and then putting the swingout on for off roading. Unfortunately, I don't get to go off roading nearly as much as I'd like (10 month old baby at home) and I like the backup camera for daily driving. I also like being a "sleeper rig" where I don't draw lots of attention to myself with lots of mods, yet I can hit the trails and impress built Jeeps with where the family car can go. Additionally, I'm one of those weirdos who is somewhat conscious of my gas mileage, so every pound not on the vehicle for my normal driving is appreciated. (I even take some of my heavy aftermarket skidplates off after big wheeling trips). Anyway, I'm sure it wold be pretty easy to drill or cut a hole in the bumper in the stock location so the tool could be inserted to lower the spare.

On another note, I think its great they were able to incorporate the stock receiver so you don't lose the ability to tow. I think most the the rear bumpers that included a new receiver said they weren't rated for towing.

Did you see my solution for a new rear camera?

Actually, the receiver is a fabricated. It's actually stronger than factory :)

Pricing is showing on sworks' website... $1999.99 plus options. Didn't see where that had been mentioned here. The "same" bumper for the 3rd gen guys is $500 cheaper.

Yeah, I did. Now I look like an idiot. :ohwell: But I still think I would prefer to leave the swingout at home for daily driving, even though it looks awesome.

As for the receiver, I thought it looked a little different than mine. Why did they fabricate a new one?

I think they announced pricing on the website vs. here. No idea why the 3rd gen is cheaper but it could have to do with different fabrication times, material costs, supply/demand etc :)

very little supply, much demand.

Indeed, they seem to make excellent products but the lead times are hard to swallow (*note I do not personally own any or have any on order). I think this looks like a near perfect offering, not a huge fan of the "gap" between bumper and the rear hatch just in front of the latch seems to large for any flex concerns but i suppose it is what it is and easily filled in with rubber trim etc.

Ya that is quite the gap, maybe its just for the prototype...?

Is it possible to mount a rotopax bracket if we remove the Jerry can mount? Also is the double jerry mount one large mount or two singles side by side?

jpclark - are those lights in the end of the bumper for backup? How is the spread? They look like they'd be shining to the sides, leaving a bit of light gap in the center.

One step ahead of you there buddy. Not something we had to worry about on yours, but the production design has ~2" taken out of the rear flange on the driver side of the hatch latch to allow access the stock spare mechanism.

The Jerry cans are two single mounts fastened together so that have to option to run a single if you want. Currently no Rotopax accommodations.
