Shrockworks bumper finish option

OK, my SW bumper is here and I ordered it in black powder coat. This means that everything except the skid-plate is black, including the trim pieces that go under the headlights. So I can either install the trim pieces as-is or paint them to match the truck (MagGray, like Ladywolf did with hers).

A little more info:
I plan on DIY Line-X coating the aluminum skid-plate and my Fairlead is black anodized. Also, being a Trail, my wheel well moldings are black and my headlights are smoked.

So what is the opinion of the gang, should I leave the headlight trim pieces black or paint them Mag Gray.

Personally I would color match, I don't think they'd look right in any other color.

Almost forgot, there is another option/mod I would like feedback on. The license plate holes are even with the top winch mount holes which will leave the license plate sticking up up above the top of the bumper. It looks like I could drill (and paint) new ones just above the Fairlead to lower the license plate about 3-4 inches which will leave a lot less of the license plate sticking up above the bumper.

Any reason not to do this mod?

Color match and as far as the license plate problem, just put new holes in the plate. Don't drill into the new bumper.

If you are running a winch just go without a front plate. You could take a look at how the_josh installed his front plate on a wing if you must have the front plate.

I stuck mine behind the fairlead, leaves enough room so its not blocking my dual 20s.

As far as a license plate goes, if you're using a Hawse fairlead, buy one of these puppies.

There are similar items available for roller fairleads as well.

Can't wait to finished mod. The Shrockwork bumper is on my list of wants.

Color match seems to be the general consensus. Which I agree with. If you left them black, I think it would look a little unfinished.

Color match would probably look best. However, what if you we're to paint them to match the bumper and also paint the grill surround to match? That might look pretty good too. Maybe plastidip or vinyl wrap to try it out?

Anyone with photoshop skills that can mock this up? I just tried using inkscape and it looks pretty BA. But I'm awful with shading, glare, and all that stuff. I might as well be using MS Paint. :moping:

I really like the looks of that bumper - did you have to cut much of the plastic to get it to fit like the ARB bumper?

Thats the beauty of the Shrockworks. You don't cut ANY of your stock bumper, they give you trim pieces, that can be painted, for under the headlights.

You do have to cut the wheel well liner, but that's easy with just a Stanley (utility) knife or Exact-O

Why shouldn't I drill new mounting holes for the license plate? They will go through the single thickness steel of the bumper and not the double thickness that reinforces for the winch. I figured to 'paint' the holes with POR-15 then DIY Line-X so there shouldn't be a problem with rust.

I'm also thinking of drilling holes on the top for lights so this is a concern for me.

Paint to match body color (paint code = 1G3). Looks better IMO.

Just stick it behind your fairlead, its not going anywhere.
