Shrockworks Modular Rear Bumper/Tire Carrier

I am interested as well.

I do think the spare should go on the right and the cans on the left, and they should be removable. In the design shown, it doesn't allow for a bigger tire than what is on the test truck. Looks like a tight fit to me.

To those not seeing the need for Jerry cans: For some people they are absolutely necessary. If the nature of your trips is more "overlanding" than 4x4 then you need them. If you are say, spending 4 days in Death Valley or the Mojave, they come in handy. 350 miles per tank only applies when your vehicle is not loaded down, and with things up on the rack. Not to mention all the higher rpm stop-and-go during 4-Low hard-spots.

It allows you to camp and explore over multiple days without having to go into town. After all, even if you make it to town they might not have gas. It is extra insurance that is well worth it in my opinion. Do you need them on there all the time? No. Does everyone like gas on the back instead of the rack? No. But, it depends on the trip and the gear. If you had a RTT, then they need to go on the back.

Modular and options is the key like ARB rear bumpers for the Land Cruiser.

As for the Gobi ladder. I don't have one, but was seriously considering one. In my opinion, based on my own experience, I don't need one. I can easily stand on the rear tires and load and unload everything including 50lb+ cargo boxes and jerry cans. I can also secure them easily with tie-downs from that vantage point. I can also climb up from there very easily. I think that if I had a ladder, I would still use the tires and the sills of the rear doors more to load and unload since not everything gets loaded on the back of the rack. I am 6'1

I would want it mainly for extra rear protection as the stock rear bumper quality is awful.

Just my 2 cents.

A bigger consideration to me is the backup camera.

I agree with all of the observations. I have a RTT, and I would also appreciate an option for gas or water when overlanding. I too would appreciate the back-up camera being functional to operate with the factory nav screen. I am also confident that the guys at Shrockworks can get this done including increased clearance, Gobi ladder, with modular applications for all. So, chillax and wait for the master to get it done.

P.S. who cares about the 12 weeks it might take to get a quality product that is made in America by Americans. Shrockworks rules!!!!!

My wants and needs are fairly simple. I want something like BFLAN's bumper. I can move the spare from it's under-slung location to the roof when I go off road as well as putting jerry cans up there.

If Shrockworks comes up with that I'd be on it in a heartbeat.

I sure hope they are rethinking this first design. IMHO this was a fail. Specifically this first picture is what turned me off completely.

^no gain in clearance or departure angle. Sits lower then the factory rear bumper. They also should have had the sides go all the way to the fenderwell. It makes the bumper look like a add on piece instead of a replacement.

I'll add to the complaints.... zip ties to hold the cut stock bumper to the aftermarket bumper, C'mon. That does not cut it for me, not at the price of this bumper. I would also like to see the tire sit a little higher up. I had such high hopes for this bumper considering what Shrockworks did for the front.

Thing I like is they kept the park-tronic sensors since the camera is now useless.

Can we say custom from a local fabricator for me? Yes we can....

With as tight to the body as this thing is, it doesnt look like it is going to clear the Gobi ladder. And with what was metioned above, there isnt a whole lot we can do about that unfortunatly.

Could steps of some sort be incorporated into the design of the bumper?

Can you say PROTOTYPE? You guys are so darned critical. Glad you were not around, or if you were, I would like to see your comments on the prototype for the front bumper. That would probably make us all laugh!

Lighten up, Justin and his team have yet to build anything we don't like. Give him some time, he is obviously listening. He asked for questions not attacks. Constructive ideas and suggestions would be much more appropriate.

Love you guys!!

As far as I remember this was not a PROTOTYPE, this was a final production piece. This bumper was available on the latest group buy and was listed on the website but last time I checked it was not there anymore.

I love Shrockworks products and believe they are of top quality. I can't wait for my front bumper to come, which I hope is soon. I feel they might have rushed to get a product out ever so slightly. I hope they tweak this design a little, which might sway me to get their rear.

I am sure you are correct. I never saw it as an available item, but it would lead me to believe that since they took it down as an item that is no longer available they are probably still in development on it. I think they probably received a good amount of feedback and may be back at the drawing board (or screen).

It's all good. Thanks, and I too would be a taker as I am crazy for Shrockworks and currently have purchased and installed all their offerings for my rig (sans the front bumper, should arrive in a couple of weeks).

Happy Trails!!

Thinking out loud in probably the most wrong thread about it...but since this is a thread about relocating the spare tire carrier....

I read about a guy on Expedition Portal that took his Tacoma to a shop in Bend Oregon and got an extended range (~37gal) tank installed in his truck after moving the spare tire to the rear bumper. They said the shop kept the mold and as anyone who's been to Bend Oregon (me) should know, it wouldn't hard to find the shop who did the work to get a custom tank built for our trucks. Should only be minor tweaking of their design that's on file.

So having already stated the solution to the question that I've yet to ask, has anyone taken advantage of the extra space and made an extended range tank yet?

SoCal has. His is completely custom, check out his build.

I'm going to bump this. If Shrockworks can't tweak this design to get a better clearance angle and fit the Gobi ladder, chances are high I'll get one fabbed elsewhere or go with the CBI one if/when it comes out.

That's weird, I went with CBI because I didn't want to wait close to a year for an extra or second bumper on top of my factory one. Just saying.

But then again, everyone's different.
