Shrockworks tcase installation help

I've got the transfer case plate lined up and situated, I'm not sure if I'm not comprehending things or if the instructions aren't that great - there are no pictures

Starting at the rear, narrow end of the skid plate, there are 2 bolts. The inner bolt fits through the skid plate and the cross member and I can put the nut on over the top
The bolt next to it on the outer side goes into the cross member but cannot pass all the way through, the holes are lined up where the cross member bolts onto the frame. I can't get a socket or a wrench inside the crossmember and like I said, the bolt doesn't pass through to the top, there's no hole on the top half.

At the front of the skid plate toward the front of the vehicle, the 2 outside bolts on both opposit sides, passenger and driver, fit through the cross member and bolt fine. The bolt that fits between the 2 bolts towards the passenger side (basically center bolt) passes through the cross member and right into the transmission mount. I might be able to fit and open ranch and spin the bolt a 16th of a turn very slowly until it is tight enough, but I feel like there must be a better way

I remember drilling out a couple holes to bolt it on... And I don't remember the trans mount being in the way at all. I'll have to stick my head under there to see what's up. I also replaced all the zinc 5/16" hardware with 3/8" stainless stuff - it requires a bit more finagling to get it to fit, but it fits the 3/8" square holes in the skid plates better to keep the carriage bolts from spinning. (3/8" SAE nuts also work perfectly with a 14mm wrench, so it keeps things 'metric' on the truck)

The bolt at the rear of the transfer case plate where it mounts near the gas tank, closest to the driver side.

It goes through the plate and into the cross member and inside the cross member where I can't get a wrench and there's no hole on top. But of course that center bolt goes through the cross member on the passenger side of the transmission mount. I believe once I have the transmission plate mated next to the transfer case at that cross member, the bolt will sit lower below where the angle from the transmission mount sticks out and I can get a closed and ratchet wrench over it.

I think I can work around that but the rear skid plate bolt, one of the two, there's no way

I'll try to get a few pictures this weekend of my bolt setup in that area... I have the full skids all the way back through the gas tank.

thanks man. I took some of my situation but couldnt post them reliable with Google Photos. I wish we could just post instead of link.

anyhow, Shrockworks responded, indeed I had to drill one hole for that one bolt. I got everything done, by myself, under the car on a creeper.

The ONE bolt I had trouble with is in the middle of the trans/transfer skid. near that trans mount. Shrock said to just use an open end wrench - Ill need to get pick up a bolt more suited.

I like your idea of using stainless bolts.
