I believe the 03-05 easily serviced for applying shudder fix. The 06-09 have a closed transmission so a little more difficult from my understanding.
Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in.

Super easy to swap the fluid on my 08 transmission. There is a drain plug, fill plug, and correct level plug. Get yourself a small hand pump that fits on the liter bottles at your local autoshop and crack open the fill plug on your transmission.
Did you notice an improvement after the change?
I have an 05 v6 that does it slightly around 45 to 50 and am just considering have a shop do it.

The shift solenoids are sensitive to crud and over time shifts are less smooth. I always add a Magnifine 3/8” filter to keep the ATF clean. Check them out.

2005 4runners are also "closed" trans using WS fluid...
for the sealed transmissions its much easier to use a 3/8 clear hose with a funnel & let gravity fill the fluid into the fill hole on the side of the trans. no need to hand pump 12-13qts of fluid for an exchange.

1 tube is all thats usually needed for most transmissions. you can add it via the fill hole on the side of the trans fairly easy by just squeezing it in & its a small enough amount it wont hurt the fill level.
but i would definitely check the mileage & service history of the trans fluid, toyota recommends a full exchange at 100k miles or 60k if towing. adding in new fluid to a healthy working trans wont cause any problems & will replenish the worn out additives & should help the shudder, adding a tube of shudder fix will help more.
but keep in mind the shudder is usually torque converter related & if its too far gone new fluid or an additive wont always fix it but many have reported it greatly reduced it or stopped it.
best of luck the additive or new fluid will improve or stop it.

ive read quite a few threads on here & other places that said doing a fluid exchange stopped or greatly reduced the shudder....
aside from the TC causing most shudder issues, worn out fluid will definitely contribute to or cause shudder because the anti shudder additives are worn out or not sufficient enough to prevent it. new fluid replenishes these additives.
many people use maxlife with excellent results including myself & it states right on the bottle that it has high concentration of anti shudder additives to help stop or prevent shudder & thats whats happening when adding the shudder fix additive, its increasing or restoring the lost/worn out additives. nothing wrong with trying just the additive but a fluid exchange is part of proper maintenance & no reason to not do it depending on the mileage or history.
