Side step bars - you like?

We just got an 06 Limited last week, and today I got out the sockets and tore off the pretentious, embarrassing, stupid side step bars. It looks so much better without them, and I don't feel like a soccer mom trying to look like an H2.

Anyone else feel the same way?

hmm i am not sure what the ones you are talking about look like, but if they are the same as on the 06 sport then i like them better than my 04 sr5's rubbermaid looking ones. in fact i would be interested in buying them if you are interested in selling. im far from ca though, so it might be too expenzive shipping.

I don't have a pic, but I'm sure there's one on Toyota's web site - it's an 06 Limited, 4x4 V8.

I lease my cars so I need to keep these until it's sell time, sorry.

I think side steps were designed by the same clueless marketing person who thinks that offroaders use brush guards over their taillights.

I like tube step bars. It is running boards I don't like - they give that 'soccer mom' feel.

I also find them handy when using my roof-rack or washing my car.

The factory running boards on the earlier 4th Gens are actually functional at keeping mud out of the doors.

And my opinion is that I don't like looking like a lowrider with half a ton of cosmetic cladding & crap bolted all over my car!

I hope you didnt rip off your side claddings too. The lighted running board actually looks pretty good in my opinion, they are not just cosmetic, they are functional. They help alot if you have small children since the 4runner is so high up. It also help to protect against door dings in the parking lot, but if you plan to do some serious offroading, then I would definitely take them off.

Well I LOVE the LIGHTED running boards on my 05 Limited.

I only wish there were some TUBES that were also lighted so I could gain some offroad durability without losing a very "cool" feature.

they do serve a purpose...

I stand taller than 3'4" so I don't need step bars to get into my seat. They add dirt to my pant cuffs and generally useless as hell. I will step onto them to get in just so I don't get dirt on my dress pants.

So why do I keep them? I found that they protect the lower sections on the doors from getting rock blasted. Yes, the T4R has mud flaps, but the step bars work veyr, veyr well in keeping the gravel and sand from being flung up and chipping the paint off.

After I come back from traveling on dirt and gravel roads, fire trails, or mud and debris tracks I hose out under the step bars and flush out all sorts of hard gravelly gunk. Gunk that would have splattered onto hte lower sides and pitted the doors like I had on my Tahoe.

So.........I keep them.

One thing I would like to do is what Four Wheeler did to their "TraiLex" - they pulled off the plastic body cladding from the lower half of the car, and sprayed on bedliner to replace it. Gave it a cool two-tone look and armored the rocker panels from flung debris.

Not that I'm going to, that's why I'm buying a Cherokee to build on. The wife's 4Runner is not allowed to be built on.

I actually love my "H2 Soccer Mom" lighted running boards. I don't even use them and never have a problem with dirt on the back of my pants. My wife uses them a good bit as well as our dog. i just like the look. They are keep rocks and dirt off the rocker panels.

I'm sorry, when did the board make the move from 4Runners to christian 4Runners?

I have a feeling that forcing your religious values on other posters won't win you many friends either.
