sidestep mounts remove?

I noticed after I removed the side steps there are threaded bolts hanging down from the frame. It looks like I can loosed and remove them easily but I wanted to make sure. If anyone has removed these that wants to chime in. Thanks

If you're talking about the running boards, a lot of us have removed them.

That is actually a nut and it serves a very important purpose. It's your body mount, it attaches your body to the frame.

Is it supposed to stick out that far? Wont it get caught on rocks when off road?

Yes, they all stick out pretty far.

My brother's FJ landed hard on a stump, we thought it was on the slider, but it bent the body mount bolt quite a bit. He since did a body lift, which uses beefier bolts and I think it's a bit more tucked in.

I don't think it's too common to hit the bolts though.

That's how they are from the factory, they just stick out that much.

Honestly, they're tucked up out of the way enough that they shouldn't get hung up on rocks. There's the occasional oddball rock that may grab them as [MENTION=130999]Inv4drZm[/MENTION] mentioned, but I wouldn't be too concerned.
