I would like to take the glass from a 97Ltd and swap it into a 99Ltd, I attempted to take the glass out of the 97 but there is a plug attached to it. Firstly will it fit and secondly where does it unplug,do i have to take the door appart.

Do you have heated side mirrors? I'm guessing they're powered mirrors as well. This would explain any plugs or electric connections going to the mirrors.

They are just power mirrors. I thought it was going to be a quick job, looks like I have to take the door panel off.

You do have to take the door panel off. Make sure not to yank it because the plastic clips are very fragile and can snap easily.

There is a "how to" remove your door panel somewhere. I almost did one myself but saw it was already done.

The glass comes out of the plastic part with a heat gun around the perimeter & some finesse, if that's all you really need is the glass out of the assembly. The clip on the inside of the door panel would only be needed if swapping the entire assembly.

THIS!!!

99+ have heated mirrors (5 wire main plug) and the 96-98 are NON-heated.

How would i know if they are heated. I can see that its not the original glass in my 99 thats why I want to replace it.

Count the wires on the main plug. 5 wire is heated, 3 wire is not. Or, remove the glass from the housing. There will be two wires directly on the back of the glass if it's heated.

Is there anything inside the truck to indicate that they are heated. I have a jetta with heated mirriors that has a little symbol on the controls saying so but have no idea when and if they are on.

In 1999 they updated the side rearview mirror housing (along with front bumper etc.) So just make sure the actual glass will still fit. Because the housings are definintely different

saweetlou - I cracked the drive side mirror and I was told by the dealer that the mirror (not the entire assembly) could be replaced. Did you end up replacing the mirror or the entire assemble? If you replaced the mirror, how did you do it?

You don't have to remove the inside door panel to remove the 4runner mirrors....just the tweeter cover is removed, then disconnect the mirror plug there, and the three bolts that hold the mirror on.

Watch the shape; sometime in late 99 they changed the mirror design to be more aerodynamic.

You don't have to remove the inside door panel to remove the 4runner mirrors....just the tweeter cover is removed, then disconnect the mirror plug there, and the three bolts that hold the mirror on.

The mirror plug goes down behind the door panel, how can you reach down there and unplug it?! The plug is DEFINITELY not right behind the tweeter cover.
