So the title says it all. A few months ago I decided to replace the fuel filter on my 02 4runner, as its the original and the vehicle is approaching 200k. Swap itself seemed pretty straight through and easy. However, since then Iv noticed a significant drop in my mileage. I used to get 300-320 miles per tank before the light came on. Im now only pulling around 270. At first I thought that it might just be a computer issue, with the system having been used to the a dirty filter, however after the last few fill ups, Iv noticed Im still putting 16 gallons (Light always comes on with about one gallon left). Best I can tell, changing out the fuel filter has lost me 30-45 miles per tank? Iv had a mechanic take a look at it while doing other maintenance. Not a full inspection, more of a cursory to make sure I didnt hook it up wrong or have a leak. No issues, at least from the install side. Has anyone experienced this before, or have any ideas?
