Silverstars vs. Silverstar Ultra?

i was in autozone the other day looking at headlights and noticed both looked almost the same on the chart. is anybody running either one of these and can give a good word on them? it has been raining pretty bad here lately and my luminics pure blue are just not what i need as it is almost impossible to see in rain.

I finally had one of my original Silverstars burn out after about 3 years so I upgraded to the Ultras and compared side by side the Ultras were actually a little more whiter and brighter but not drastically much but definetly noticeable. In the wet they are maginally better but I helped out the head lamps with Optilux Yellow H3s in the fogs.

So far I'm happy with them and they are a solid upgrade over the regulars.

where do you guys get these bluish hid lookalike bulbs from? i want a set for my 97-4rnr

You can get Silverstars from pretty much anywhere bulbs are sold but the Ultras don't give off very much blue at all and that's good since bluish light doesn't do much for the driver's vision. True HIDs look blue when you look at them but from in the car they are actually more white.

if you want "blue HID" style lights then you want the Luminics Pure Blue which I run and Fo_Shezzy and probably many others on here. they are fine to use at night on a normal day, but don't do anything in rain or fog.

here is a comparison to Luminics and Sylvania's "Cool Blue"

luminics on the left make the "cool blue" look yellow.

i'm considering now making the swap to the Ultras if they are super white. i have already bought a piar of Silverstar H3 fogs but havent put them in yet.

Sloan, get a set of Hella 500's and you won't have a problem with the rain! :bigok:

seevik, you can get the luminics pure blue from www.eautoworks.com They are definitely the closet looking bulbs to HID's.

i guess if these silverstars dont work out good it gives me another excuse to buy a brush guard and mount the 500s.

Silverstar's will give you a yellowish look that resembles stock headlights, that's why I never liked them. But they are definitely brighter then Luminics Pure Blue. Yeah I've got a Manik and I love it. You can always mount the Hella's like I did until you get a brush guard.

do the manik guards mount to the frame? and are they bad about shaking like some other guards?

Yeah I believe it mounts to the frame, and mine doesn't shake at all.

I installed Silverstars a year ago - bought them in Wal-mart, and have been very pleased with them - particularly since I have some country driving to do after dark in the winter commuting to and from work ....they really put off a much brighter white light.

yea i do alot of highway driving at night usually to my parents with not alot of light around but my headlights.

do the silverstars have any yellow to them? or is it a whitish blue color?

It's a bright white light, Sloan..no yellow tint....

I've got the regular Silverstars, and as you can see in the comparison photo, yes, they're worth the money, particularly on those unlighted country roads -- and especially during deer season!!! I don't think there's an appreciable difference between the regular and ultra Silverstars..

yea i agree from what i have heard its a little better but not worth the money.

First thing I did for my new 99 4runner was get the Silverstar Ultras in both the fogs and the head lights. I absolutely love them. I can't guarantee that they are worth the extra money because I have not run the regulars, however, they look every bit as bright as that picture in the last post of the previous page.
