I do not believe that is correct unless it is specific to Limited. My 2001 SR5 does not need an OEM key to program the remote. The OP needs to search because there are multiple different OEM remotes depending on whether a factory alarm is present and each has a part number. My 01 only had the factory option for remote entry and roll down rear glass. The OEM key (bought mine new so I know its the key) has no "intelligence". I actually used a spare to program a remote earlier in the year. You need a key to do the programming - directions are found with a search - because that triggers the programming mode. It just has to be a key that will start the vehicle and cycle the locks. Hint - you have to cycle the locks multiple times in the process. Using the switch generally fails because the age of the actuator. Rolling down drivers window and using a key in door lock works much better
