Single cat Cali truck

I bought a 99 SR5 in Nevada but I live in California. Under the hood it says it meets California emissions for 1999. It only has one cat on the exhaust though. Will it pass smog in California?

You will be able to register it, no problem. There may be a small extra fee when you first transfer the title to California.

Though, if it is a '99 and meets CA requirements, it should have 2 cats... What does the sticker on the hood say for how many cats? (there should be a diagram emissions related parts)

Those stickers are confusing. The key is the line under Engine Family in the top left corner. A Cali says "SFI, AFS, TWC(2), HO2S or similar. Fed says SFI, TWC, HO2S(2) or similar. There are some variations year-to-year.

Charlie is right, a Cali. '99 SR5 has two cats (I own one.) Odds are you have a Federal Truck.

I purchased a 98 that had a Cat that was working just fine but it did not have a California CARB number on it the Cat cost me an extra 400.00 at Midas.:frusty:

I believe they smog it at the Federal standard for 1999 when imported into Cali. but I am no expert on CARB rules.

In California, on our era cars/trucks, a 49-state vehicle will smog checked to the 49-state standard in effect for the year of the vehicle. I've owned several 1980s and 1990s Toyota trucks that originated in another state w/ 49-state smog specs and it's always been no problem at smog check time.
