Single din heads

All of the topics on aftermarket head units deal with swapping to double din heads. I want to know if I can purchase a single din head and swap it directly to the stock head unit. All help is appreciated

Yes you can, there would just be an accessory needed. It would give you a little shelf under your stereo

Oh you mean like a mounting piece that goes around the head unit to make it fit right?

You have to have the install kit to mount it to the double din. Yes the stereo mounts to the kit and then you screw the kit to the dash.

You'll probably also need various wiring harness adapters (for the stock JBL amp, if applicable, and also to adapt the steering wheel controls to the aftermarket head unit).

This is my exact setup, pioneer even! That shelf is a great place for the ipod/Galaxy.

Anybody know the make/model of this dash kit? The one I got from Scocshe was too wide, and we all know the metra kit doesn't work

I agree with calling that 1-800 number in the link you posted and double check with Crutchfield whether it will fit or not because they have it listed for a 2000-2009 4runner which seems odd. It should be for a 1996-2002 or a 2003-2009. That's what I would do but based on the picture, it does look the same.

"aarash: ok, thanks very much for your help, Tommy. Just to double check, you're 100% sure that this dash kit will fit a 2004 4runner with JBL non-RDS, correct?

Tommy: Yes."

so it looks like this will fit. I'm ordering now, and I'll check back when I get it and can do the install!
