Greetings to all.

I just recently found this site and amazed at all the information that I've been able to read. Saturday night I stayed up until three in the morning observing all the great information. Thanks to all the post.

I installed Sirius Sportster 4 satellite radio in my truck in August. I first tried going through the aux in the center console compartment. My MP3 player plays great through this input. So I thought the best and uncomplicated way would be to put a sirius radio through this. I ended up getting a lot of background noise, not too good. As an alternative I ended up doing the direct FM connect. On good sunny days everything great but when there's a thunderstorm rolling through I get a lot popping and crackling, through on the speakers. And the results is I not very satisfied, i want soming better.

As stated I'm Canadian and the Nav interface on the Toyota 4 Runner not available to me. I went to the US Toyota website and played the video on the nav system. It's awesome. But for three grand a little out of my price range. Still paying for the truck and raising two kids. Maybe one day. I also Have a hand held GPS MapC60sx (2gig card)with Gamin NT North America Maps and toppos. It works fine for me as my wife says!

So my question is this. My JBL has sat capability built in, and I want to get the sportster 4 off my Dash -- with The suction cup

My JBL is the 10 speaker system. Now it doesn't rattle my teeth, but it's okay for me.

The TOY-SC1 has not been released yet....

Is Sirius Canada different from Sirius USA? You might be able to install the factory tuner (part #PTS31-00052) and fit kit (part #PTS31-33051). I got mine from partznet for around $225 + shipping. Install took just under 4 hours including activation. Really wasn't too difficult, just take your time and follow the instructions.

I had a Starmate hooked up through the aux. for a while, never noticed any issues with noise. Much cleaner with the factory tuner, no wires, and with only one powerpoint..... Cell phone charger, GPS, Sat radio, What was Toyota thinking?

I have an 05 with the 10 speaker JBL and run my Starmate through the aux in jacks at the back of the head unit. I have the PIE Toy 03 AUX for my unit and have used it for a few years with great results. As the number of sat radios increases, using the FM modulator results in frequently picking up someone else's radio channel

Thanks guys for all the replies. I'm going to take a couple days and digest this information as to what suits me best. The dealer up here quoted me $825.00 Plus taxes to install the Toyota stock part.

I liked the thought of putting Toyota stock interface into my truck. @ $225 I do it. And as far as the time is concerned. I have already taken the Dash (aroung the radio) off . So yeah, no problem there.

I also put a two station plug-in power adapter in the center console for my GPS and phone.

As for Canada's sirius radio and USA sirius same umbrella. Different call centers, different billing. It's probably legal thing. And of course, up here in Canada.......there is a whole bunch of bureaucracy that says, what we can and cannot have. And I don't want to get into this.

If yes, try a ground loop isolator. You can get them at thesource.ca Not sure why your aux in would have this type of issue.

Yes it rises with the motor rpms.

I have it hooked up both ways now.... AUX Jack and FM atena and toggle back and forth.

It seemed ok on Axu today but have to waitand see if it is an intermittent problem

Okay, I have been analyzing the situation.... and the situation is this.

Plugging through the aux (staying away from the fm transmitter)and every thing seems to be okay,but every night when I come home I pull into the garage (hate having to de-ice the vehicle every morning). At first I did not hear the noise... except Friday I had the radio turned up listening to a tune, pulled into the garage and when I lost satellite signal... There was the noise. (A high pitch whining noise. Possibly the alternator?)


The noise seems almost transparent when there is music coming through or I have satellite reception. But when I lose reception. There is the noise. Can anybody else duplicate this. Or is this loopback the fix?

I am pulling power off the cigarette lighter. I put an exhilarating adapter in the armrest and solder the wires off the cigarette lighter.

Being that I have no problem with my MP3 player, which gets its power from batteries. I have to assume my problem is power with the satellite radio.

Test with talk radio...or test it as follows: In park, gently rev the engine up and down while switching stations constantly, in other words you are switching stations so that you never hear the station come on, just the blank between the stations. If you hear the noise there, or during talk/comedy, then you know it is a ground loop.

No ground loop on the ipod because it runs off batteries.

If the return policy is good just get the ground loop isolator anyway.

In many cases you will not hear the noise, but I found classical or talk / comedy to be a problem on the highway until I did the ground loop fix.
