Sirius Sat Radio Install question

Hey all, hope everyone is enjoying there Friday. I have a quick question and hoping someone can give me an answer. I'm looking at running the magnetic antenna to the rear. I know I'll have to set the magnet on the rear roof and start running the cord in threw a taillight and then towards the front unit.

Has anyone done this with out ripping carpet and removing all the panels?

I'm assuming I'll have to run it along the floor boards and along the doors. Just wondering what everyone did and how you did it.

After searching around online I found a pretty easy way. My plan is to mount it on the rear, I'll run the cord threw the weather stripping on the rear and into the break light. I'll pop off the rear cargo panel and run it along the passenger floor to the dashboard.

I'll post up on how I ended up.

i ran mine with double sided tape on the top of the A pillar onto the windshield from the inside of the car. got too lazy to run it out. Ive had it like that in my prelude and it was fine.
In my wrx and my A4 I ran the antenna in the middle of the dashboard, right where it meets the windshield but it is not possible to do that on the 4runner since the defroster is right there.
hope this helps in mounting it somewhere in there.

So I got it all installed and tucked away.

2004 SR5 V8 4x4

With the car kit, it included 2 mounts. A suction cup mount and a vent mount. I went with the vent mount, I'll be picking up a plate mount for the dash in the future. So this was my best option for what I had. I went the vent on the right side closest to the drivers wheel.

- First was running the signal wire first. I went for a rear mount location in the center. I just places the magnet where I wanted and did a dry run with out removing any panels to see how it worked for length.

- I started tucking the wire In the rear weather stripping making my way to the passenger break light. At this point I needed to unscrew the plastic trim at the bottom of the rear carpet plate, in order to get the other screws and bolts. Next was to remove the break light with 2 10mill bolts.

- the rear panel wasn't as hard to remove, because I only removed enough to run the wire threw. After removing the break light I ran the wire into the back panel and down to the floor along towards the rear seats. Your going to have to remove the rear passenger seat belt to get the panel to shift out so you can get the wire threw.

- I used a taped up flat nose screw driver to pop up the passenger door floor pan led beside the door. Very easy todo, you'll see a perfect safe location to run the wire. You can just tuck it under the pillar between the passenger front and rear seat. Remove the passenger floor panel or and also the panel under the dashboard closest to the floor.

- I had a great feed to cut across the glove box and in under the factory radio, and future location.

- you'll need to remove parts of the centre console, the bottom tray, heat and clock dash and the trim around the radio.

- you'll need to remove the bolts under the drivers dash to get to the bolt that attached to the dash trim. There's a great video on YouTube showing how this is done.
All bolts will be a 10mill bolt to remove.

In regards to power I spliced in to the 12V and added an extra port

I just drilled a hole at the bottom of the centre console, and fed the wires up threw to the dash as per the video.

i pulled mine out it was a stock add on to my 06 limited the antenna was a rolled up wire in the dash, maybe it will work with it in the headliner?

I thought about going threw the front pillar up to the Headliner, but I found the way I ran it worked out best. Anything is possible.

An easy tip would be plug the antenna in to the reciever. Put the display on "Sat test" and you can move around to different locations testing the signal. There's a good amount of slack in the car kit antenna, so you canine it around as a dry run before installing. They do advise to put the magnetic antenna on the roof outside, The less restricting the signal the better.

actually when i got it the dealer installed it like that, work with stock system, it was rolled up behind the dash worked great for the last 9 years, till i pulled out in favor of an aftermarket headunit. wasn't a fan of the bump on the roof.

I guess it's all up to the owner., I do to mind it because no one can really see it. There tons of options out there, I just used what was best for me. I live In location of extreme weather, so anyway I can get a clear signal I'm on it.

im guessing the tech was lazy to properly mount the antenna, who knows i may have gotten better channels..

just a friendly heads up...not sure if this has happened to anyone else. i originally installed my antenna in the exact same spot as you and found that after a couple years, i lost signal and the wire was "cut." turns out, opening and closing the tailgate over such a long period of time went through the sheath and damaged the wire. i eventually replaced it and went through the arduous task of replacing it. i ended up putting it on the dash corner on the passenger side. no issues with reception/signal.

Yea I totally thought about that. I ran the wire into the weather stripping of the hatch. Then into the break light, I made sure not to pinch the wire when tightening the break light back to the body.

That a great tip, " keep the antenna wire as straight as you can".
