Sirius XM out of the blue...

So I've had my TE for a year now and when I got it I did not have XM radio.....but now I do. Strange, perhaps it timed with my Nav firmware update but that doesnt make much sense to me. Isnt XM a paid service? Anyone else experience something like this?

Ok, thank you, that would explain it. I thought all this time I had it and did not know it. Just a matter of time when they turn it off...

That's exactly right bimrunner. They'll do anything to get ppl to pay money, to listen to the radio...:wtf:
Why would I pay to listen to the radio; I'm already paying a big grip, just to watch tv???!!!

I noticed that as well a couple days ago; they put up 4-5 stations of each style, was a nice surprise and have used it a few times but no plans to pay for it.

Thanks for the post OP. Just checked my XM and it’s magically on. Not all the channels but the 80’s and the 90’s are on and few others. Hopefully it’s on for a while because I refuse to pay for radio.:music:

What he said. I have it in both vehicles. Hate paying for it but I live in the mountains and have like one station on fm to listen to. I also travel a good bit and like the fact I do not have to continually look for new stations. No commercials is worth it to me - only the non-music stations have commercials unless they are a rebroadcast of FM stations (WSIX in Nashville is one of them).

I thought I heard something on there a few days ago about a free month of XM radio. Obviously I never paid attention seeing I already have it.

We have 2 FM stations here and when you leave town I'm stuck with an AM talk show only. I would pay any price to keep XM in my truck, but luckily I negotiated to pay half price!!

As things go these days, having so many channel choices and Internet XM make this a reasonable cost for what you get. I use the Internet XM everyday at work. People pay more per gallon for bottled tap water than gas, XM seems like a bargain

How do you update the nav firmware? I thought it does this automatically when you connect your smart phone to the Internet.

they are currently running a free promo of like 60 channels. It's to try and get people who either don't have a sub, or might've let their sub expire to see the content they're missing out on. Same thing your local cable channel does with HBO/Showtime etc.

It just uploaded itself during its normal boot-up process when starting the ignition. I actually started a thread about it while back and others experienced it as well.

When satellite radio first came out, this is exactly how I felt. I never had a chance to listen to it until the 90 day trial period that came with my 5th gen. THat sold me and I've been subscribed since. Now, all I listen to when in my 4Runner is Sirus/XM. I really enjoy the variety of stations, and the music offerings that I don't get to hear over regular radio.

I haven't used the LCD panel except as a back-up camera, keep it turned off otherwise.

Didn't even realize I had Sirius XM until I got a letter saying that they'd renew it for me.

Tossed it in the trash.

I got seriously sick of calling in every 6 months to get whatever the new deal was. Cancelled in both cars. It's the same BS the cable companies pull all the time, which is why I don't have cable either.

And the XM reception in my TE is absolutely abysmal. Sounds like crap and cuts out if a butterfly flys in the vicinity of the truck. My wife's CX-9 gets reception in the garage with the door closed for heaven's sake.

Slacker, spotify, I heart radio and all the other streaming apps too. Most usually have better sound quality than XM/Sirius as well
