Sliders...are there real differences?

I went with Metal Tech, my buddies with a 5th gen and 4th gen got white knuckle sliders. Theirs sit close to the body/rockers while my Metal Tech sliders stick out more in line with the doors at the beltline where the door panels extend out the farthest. If there's an advantage to this remains to be seen as we don't do any extreme crawling. But hindsight is 20/20 and given the chance, they would've gone with the MT's but they have no complaints with the white knuckle sliders.

I'm all about supporting local businesses, but at the same time it still comes down to preference in style, bolt on or weld on, custom work, and price. I got RCI sliders because I got in on a group buy last fall for my skids and the 4th gen sliders were brand new at that time so they were offering a hefty discount on them as well. Shipping was a flat rate even though my sliders and skids shipped separately.

That being said. I'll be all over a DO front bumper when funds allow because it's one sexy ass bumper and I can save on shipping.

Demello (Norco, CA) is also local but that's a long drive for you. They do make 5th gen. You can call and see if they have any ready bare metal or powder coated.

If I decide to add bumpers, I'll look at Demello first. I was talking to someone at an off-road gathering recently and he also mentioned Demello, though I do prefer Pelfreybilt & Metal Tech bumpers. Seems more steamlined.

Yes, you just need to loosen a bolt or two on the KDSS at the frame and insert the slider mounting flange behind it.

Pretty much cosmetics but mainly the type of material such as HREW or DOM tubing. DOM is a lot stronger. I went with Demello offroad in corona cause I could just pick it up. Been happy with it. You also have to decide if you want a hybrid slider combined with square 2x2 or 2x4 main square tubing with round tubing steps or all round tubing. Also, weld on or bolt on. kick out or no kick out. I went with DO hybrid rock sliders bolt on with 4th gen and weld on with 3rd gen. Been happy with it.

I got weld on ones...I'm gonna have Joe weld them on for me, same guy who made my roof rack. I also got some body mount chop filler plates too. I'll prolly have him chop my mounts and install the plates at the same time.

From my research, you don't really want to go with bolt ons if you're going to be doing some serious wheeling as the bolts that are used to attache the sliders to the frame rails are going to be stronger than the frame itself and can end up doing some damage. Never saw any proof of this but it makes sense ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If you are doing serious wheeling you just weld a few tabs on the bottom rails. It even has it in the instructions for the bolt on DO sliders.

Because welding requires bare, really clean metal to achieve proper penetration right..? :shocked: After that make sure they're clean again then prime n paint. Rattle can is the only way to go if you actually plan on using them. So much easier to give em a touch-up between runs. :thumb3:

Already primed them with Rustoleum Etching Primer and topped it with Rustoleum Rhino Liner :boxer: last night.

I don't ever PLAN to actually use my sliders, but they're there in case I need them. haha.
