Sliding Cargo Tray Spider Net - Confused?

I ordered the sliding cargo tray spider net from Toyota online for my 2011 T4R Trail Edition and am confused.

My sliding cargo tray appears to only have two tie down points underneath near the rear of the tray closest to the rear hatch. I had assumed the whole time that there were two more on the side closer to the 2nd row seat but do not see any?

Then I looked online for the installation instructions for the cargo net and it shows two metal tabs that I do not see at all on my unit.

There are two hard metal d-rings behind the 2nd row seat but they are not part of the sliding cargo tray unit.

The spider net only offers four hooking loops of the poly cord. Not two clips which would be required if expected to use the d-rings, however that would defeat the purpose I would think of having the net for the sliding cargo tray.

Am I just overlooking something or has anyone else ran into this ?

Searched for a thread but didn't see one so I apologize if this is something that's already been addressed.

I am reminded of the same issue every so often. I was impatient and bought 4 snap-hooks and used the 4 D-rings, but as you already indicated, that sorta prevents the sliding tray to slide out with your stuff.

The tow "hooks" on the sliding tray closest to the rear gate are "bag holders" and when I tried the net on them, there is so much slack in the net, it makes no sense either.

You would think that the engineers at Toyota would have thought this through a bit more and added D-rings to the tray too.

Glad its not just me because I consider myself capable of most anything mechanical. There is a photo on the install guide which also doesn't even remotely resemble anything in my cargo area. Very frustrating as I am so tired of stuff sliding around on my tray yet I need to be able to slide it in and out. So the d-hooks are useless to me. I agree that the engineers dropped the ball on this seemingly minor detail yet it is frustrating to those of us who opted for the cargo tray for a reason!

I guess I will have to fabricate a fix just not sure how I want to go about it just yet.

The metal tabs to hook the net closest to the 2nd row are not on the slider. They are on the bar that is bolted to the slider.

You should have a plastic divider that is suppose to sweep or prevent items from falling into the slide rails when you pull the slide out. If you remove that plastic divider you will learn that that plastic divider is snapped into 3 hooks that are bolted to the slider.

The tabs you are looking for are on the metal base. You may not be finding them because they look nothing like the hooks on the front but believe me they are there.

If I understand the divider you're talking about, it is not on any versions after the '10. I have an '11 with the sliding tray and it has no divider....although I have seen the divider you speak of on pictures from '10 models. The consensus on here seemed to be that Toyota did not put them in '11 and later because of complaints and so many folks taking them out.

If we're talking about two different things...then nevermind!

I'll sell the sliding tray divider from my 2010 TE if anyone really wants the tabs underneath the sliding tray (removing it was the first mod I did on my TE). Of course, you could always just buy the lower rail with the tabs from a dealer without getting the upper divider piece that gets in the way more than it helps... I got the all-weather cover for my sliding tray when it released and it keeps most "heavy stuff" in place while driving. I use bungee cords attached to the D Rings if I need to keep any larger items (chairs, furniture, etc) from sliding around.

That said, I too wondered about the cargo net that was included by the dealer and lack of attachment points behind the seats (assuming you don't add a carabiner or clip to the end of the net to attach to the D rings). It now makes sense that I'm missing the tabs underneath since I removed the divider.

Do you really need to slide the cargo tray in and out with the net fully attached to the tray? Why not just disconnect the two attachment points (closest to the tailgate) when you need to slide out the tray to unload gear and reattach the net when you slid the tray back in? It's not like your gear is going to slide off when you're parked... just my $0.02.

Other way around

In my case its the other way around. I have a muscle disease and frequently am loading stuff for work in and out of my T4R. These are items I want secured to the sliding cargo tray which actually is much easier with my condition by allowing me to load it slightly outside the tailgate area rather as opposed to having to stretch and reach in. I was hoping to strap in or net down the items while extended then slide back in. I understand what you are saying but in my case it kind of defeats what I was shooting for. I am going to look one more time but I think that maybe since mine was an '11 the tabs mentioned in a previous post were not included.

Did your spider net come with any hooks? Just wondering mine did not.

nope no hooks come with it in the package, you need to figure out something to hook it to for the rear mounting points if you don't already have the flip down cargo divider. I just hooked it to the two d-rings on the floor behind the back seat with carabiners.

Toyota refers to it as a "Cargo Organizer" and it became an accessory beginning with the 2011 models. P/N is PT924-89100-20
