Sliding Glass (2000 SR5)

Both sunroof and rear hatch sliding windows won't open. Malfunction is simultaneous, don't know if they are somehow related.

2000 SR5. Used to be a DD, and has over the past year or so been relegated to use a few times per month.

When opening the sunroof for the first time after nonuse for a few weeks, operation was slow. After nosing around on this forum recently, I'm guessing it was drying lube, because after a few slides back and forth, it would progressively pick up speed, and on subsequent drives in days immediately following, everything would be fine. Then after sitting for a long time, same deal, same solution.

This time, it's not even trying to tilt or slide; no movement in the glass at all. I can hear the motor make a quick whir, followed immediately by a click, then nothing. Same noise sequence when I press the button in the opposite direction.

Sunroof malfunction in coincidence with rear window malfunction (never had a problem) makes me wonder if there's a circuitry issue. Thoughts?

{I searched around, including using the alternate google method, but didn't find anything quite like this. If there is something simple I can check without having to pull and test the motor, drop the liner and mess with the tracks, etc., that would be great.}

If you can hear the motor, your problem is most likely mechanical, not electrical. At least as far as the sunroof is concerned. The rear gate window does share some circuitry with the moon roof, but it isn't that simple. They both require input from the body ECU to function, but that is about as far as that goes. If your power windows/doorlocks, and other things also didn't work, then we could go there.

I don't think you need to drop the headliner, you should be able to remove the glass and access from on top. Never pulled one on a 3rd gen, just my general experience.
