Slight thump or clunk sound when shifting from R to D

Hey guys,

I have a 2015 SR5 Premium. Since I first purchased it, I have noticed a slight clunk or thump when I pull out of my parking space. The sequence goes like this... I reverse out of the space, then when I shift from R to D and roll forward a foot or two I hear something that sound like a light clunk or something mechanical releasing. Just curious if you guys think something could be wrong.

As long as there is nothing to be concerned about I'm happy. Still saving some money to do a few "cosmetic" mods. Can wait to raise it a bit and slap on some new wheels and tires.

I don't know about the 4runner but when I had an accord, the brakes would "click" from reverse to drive or vice versa when first applied.

Once you are in drive or reverse, move/stop twice in that direction, the clicking should only have happened once (first time).

Not sure if that's the sound you are hearing though.

This may be the driveshaft greasing issue. It's basically the driveshaft moving under a shift in direction. If you regrease the u-joints etc, it should go away.

From the searching I have done on this forum, that noise is perfectly normal. Happens in mine and lots of others. I dont think its anything to be concerned with.

I have it also on my 2011 TE. My '97 LE had it too. 4Runners..........

it's the typical driveshaft clunk, totally normal, greasing the driveshaft zerks underneath will help a little
