oh wow I didnt know that! I was really thinking about scoring the newest 3rd gen I could find as well hahaYup get the all metal. 01-02 planetary gear failures are common at 200k.

Another reason not to buy 01-02, Trac module tends to fail, not bad at $300 +-.
The ABS Trac Master Cylinder POS known to fail, it can get ugly at $2200 for complete unit or go rebuild route is not cheap.
Have had 01 212k mi now for 2 years, bought it @ 198k mi with bad Trac module, $285 replacement going strong. Time will tell on Trans and MC.
So crazy and at the same time interesting to me. Youd think the 01 and 02 years would have been the most dialed in and solid models of these trucks as they were obviously the last two years of production haha

The '01/'02 trans in incompatible with earlier years... electronic line pressure control.oh wow I didnt know that! I was really thinking about scoring the newest 3rd gen I could find as well haha
Traction system and awd trans were first year upgrades in 01. Working bugs out for 03 gen 4.

the more time i spend on this forum, the more i regret not buying a 99-00 limited....AWD is standard in 99-00 Limited. Best of both worlds.

Glad the filter change got the pressure back up in the system...have you checked the shift cable at the throttle to make sure it's adjusted right? It is the governor regulator...you can bump it up a few notches to get it to build a touch more pressure to shift better...one thing I don't understand is the inline filter thing people are suggesting...it goes in line on the cooler...what doesn't make sense is the fluid gets picked up through the filter in the pan then through the trans pump and out to the cooler...so why would you need to filter it again? Also your magnets really don't look to bad...I've seen tons just like that and many much worse...as long as you don't have pieces of something it's a normal never changed fluid trans...I wouldn't wait 12k to change it again though...maybe 3k tops...and keep using that additive or use more...you want to get a conditioner on the seals...there's no way most aren't hard as a rock and hopefully it'll soften them up, if not one will fail...which is the reason trans fail after a fluid change...now that you have the stock pressure the seals are very prone to a leak or break...then you burn up a pack...typically 1st and reverse...or the drum on the band.First tank of gas through and trans is still running great at all temps. Even on cold starts. My magnafine trans filter is on it's way. I got the black ribbed 1/2" one from the website. I'll use an adapter if need be. Check engine light is from a misfire due to Injector. Need to send my extras out to be cleaned and flow tested.

The trans is exactly the same size externally. All the multi-mode transfer cases are longer than the J-shift (and electronic '96-'98 Limited) whether they are 99-00 limited or '01/'02.Amen, 01-02 trans being longer throws a bit of a wrench in things going dual cases, not a big wrench.
