slow Linksys Router

I have a junk RJ45 Network Tester (DateShark) that lights up 1--8, nothing flashing out of sequence. I put all this in in late 2006. (I worked with low voltage everything, phones, cable TV, CCTV and am retired from commercial Fire Alarm Testing and Repair. retired as in 63 yrs old). I'll have my wife run a long A/V and see if it works. fun times ahead.
I high lighted 568-A will go try my laptop first on it.

I tried my laptop and NO internet. Will take a break and tear that apart and check. wish there was more lights in that room
 
I redid that jack, or may go try another, these are new from the original purchase. I brought my Win 7 laptop out to see the 'Network connection' page, still trying to figure out what is wrong. (I did see the Fluke RJ tester in use on a video, nice!) too bad my 87 III does not have fun inputs like that. back to check connectors.
 
I ran out of good light, that line was actually the living room line that got butchered and lost blue pair. Will tear everything apart and meter good lines.

Yes, but FTP is an understatement... I have my own private cloud. :lock1:

Some of it is for my own personal use... but most of what I have is to help support my small business which I run out of my house, but it started as a hobby.

I run multiple servers using VMware vSphere and a small SAN (storage area network) using some rack mounted Synology units.

Fun fact... My wifes 4th Gen 4Runner is what I used to pick up my very first 24U server cage 10 years ago for $100. If that didn't happen I might not be where I am today.

Thanks for the reply... i'll send you a PM.. Lots i dont know but willing to learn.. Currently i only have 3 or 4 drives nothing special. I built it primarily for remote storage of anything... I think it's neat to be able to access my own server from anywhere i happen to be at the time..

Photography and Traveling are hobbies of mine. I used to bring along extra storage so after a day of shooting i could dump my images on the drive.. with my server i can send them back home...

I'm not using "windows server" I bought w10 and had a buddy configure it for me...when i learn more i might move to a proper server platform.

Have you ever heard of"Bullet proof FTP"

I forgot that long run had problems years ago. gave up troubleshooting in the dark. This morning a new pull in a few minutes. fun times. thanks all
 
I am looking at a Ethernet 10 network cable pinout. For 568A, #1 is white and green. Maybe these old fingers of mine can't get the plug put together. or maybe put a jack there and a factory short patch cord to the router??
 
So, now I have a new cable, jacks on both ends and patch cords to devices. that is how this PC in on line. My cheap RJ45 Network Tester says it is a working line. I didn't run it near AC and gave up trying to make a RJ plug. Wife is screaming at me, I have run out of ideas to fix this.
 
well, using my laptop to check 'Network page' I didn't think to reboot the router yet. quick reboot and the jack works and the speed is now up to 66 Mbps. fun times in retired life. thanks all.

Thats about the funniest thing I have seen regarding those old school WRT54G era of linksys routers lol.
 
OK, after all that work, my wife is still getting knocked off when on Google. This has to be the router??? everything else is changed. I didn't have her do a speed test, but mine was better. Will look up more reviews on this Linksys and other.

No offense but that sounds a bit ridiculous. Its almost like saying my Linksys doesn't work with the Internet.

Perhaps you have some DNS issues? I am a bit fuzzy on what the actual problem is...

Care you share some links as to what you are reading?
 
Searching for issues, I found the Linksys forum and the EA6900 and Google do not play well. lots of people said they could not get it to work. new router soon, will post about it.

This is why I asked you for a link (which you didn't provide by the way)... in the course of trying to help I can tell you are not relaying the problem accurately which is why it sounds ridiculous when you say it doesn't work with Google.

Google is a website... you are either resolving DNS and getting to your website, or you are not. If you can get to any other website, then there is no reason you should not be able to also get to google.com.

So I would have actually preferred to read what the issue is myself so I could better understand the underlying problem because I am sure its not that and something else.

I also mentioned in in my 1st post in this thread that Linksys routers are probably one of the least desirable brands I have ever used in my professional career in IT.

They are rock solid devices and I use them in commercial installations. The only thing you need to do is add a wifi component.

You can buy one wireless AP, or many to increase speed and coverage in the home. UnFi is an amazing product for the price. You can get a single UAP-AC-LITE for $89.

All this takes a home network to the next level and for not much premium over these junk home products which generally have a service lifecycle of 3-5 years.

Often times they don't have mature firmware, can be full of bugs (which is probably what you are experiencing), and because of the lifecycle are rarely supported,updated, and patched beyond the 5 year mark essentially making them throw away items, assuming the hardware doesn't die on you first.

Just something I tell clients that operate at a home level of IT who buy brands like Linksys, Netgear, DLink... If you have never heard of the brand before, its probably something you want. Nothing in my house can be found at a Best Buy.
