Small hole in air intake after engine filter

Hi all,

I found a small hole after the engine filter in the plastic air filter assembly. , looks like someone was there before to put a little patch material.
anyone have any idea what that patch material is? and where I can buy some more? Or should I change the cover, its probably less than cm hole.

Is there another engine filter after the engine filter? I have no idea how long this little hole has been open.
Thanks.

The induction path on these 4Runners seems a bit involved with plenty of places to loosen up and leak. Those spindly hose bands from the MAF box to the throttle body leave me with little confidence they will stay put sometimes.

Would love to create an unobstructed cold air intake like I put into my Miata - a perfectly shaped truck radiator hose bringing air in from the firewall cowling exterior into the induction snorkel - super simple and adds a smoother accel feel, especially in cooler weather.

Any particular type? Or anyone?

Go to the auto parts store and tell them you want some black RTV sealant. Smear it on the hole, making sure it seals it up. It'll probably stop the leak forever (unless you drive with the hood off - RTV breaks down from UV in sunlight - don't ask me how I know). :wink2:

I got some oil resistant black RTV at advance auto. smeared it around. ill check back in the morning :)

Thanks guys!

got me a over priced volt meter while I was at it. hopefully i can hunt down the source of my battery drain or dead battery tomorrow!
