Small kick when letting off brake

Just started noticing this issue the other day. Whenever I come to a complete stop, once I let my foot off the brake I can feel a little kick in my ‘05 V8 when it starts rolling. Any idea what it is?
I just got my front brakes done not even 5k miles ago, brand new rotors and pads as well as the passenger caliper because it was frozen. I’m trying to pin point if it’s maybe the other caliper, my rear brakes, or even a transmission issue. Truck shifts just fine when driving though. Any ideas?

That could be what you're experiencing.

Haven’t greased it at all. Doubt the previous owner did either. I’m at 190k today. Where exactly would that be at? Mine is also only 2wd

There are also no visible zerks to grease on the 2wd. Found that out after I tried to grease them due to the drive line clunk but never found any. Called Toyota and they’re only visible on the 4wd

2wd have a 'carrier bearing' that can fail...I guess.

I think I have the same thing happening in my '08 V6. Doesn't bother me enough for me to do anything about it, would it cause any long term affects on the truck or damage anything?

Thanks for the threads. The only issue I’m seeing is that mine is not a 4wd, so it is no slip yoke or zerks to grease. The 2wd driveshaft is a completely different design than the 4wd. That’s the only issue I’m running into

I'm having this issue even after greasing the slip joints. I've tried pumping in more grease but it just overflows from the zerk fittings so I'm assuming that it's already full.

Ah, you're right! My (former) 03 Limited was a 4WD and I do recall having the zerk fittings greased. With 2WD, things are different

2018 Nissan Patrol Super Safari (SWB)

Hi All,

I would just like to share that I am also experiencing exactly the same symptoms mentioned on this post. Only thing is, I don't drive a Toyota. My vehicle is a 2018 Nissan Patrol Super Safari (Short Wheel Base). I don't know whether this is a Japanese thing in the manufacturing of Drive Shafts?

Just thought I would let you know that all you Toyota enthusiasts are not alone in this.

Also, to add, I have been experiencing this from the day I took my vehicle out of the dealer (brand-new), a couple of months back. I now have put around 4000 km on the vehicle. Dealer said they have checked everything and could not find the problem. They have even brought in a Japanese engineer from the Nissan Y62 plant in Japan to check and he told them to check a few things but confirmed there is nothing wrong with the vehicle.

I was having the same issue. Removed the rear shaft, greased the splines where the yoke slips on to the transfer case output shaft, problem solved.

I had this SAME problem. I took it to a mechanic (not for this problem) but he told me there was a small leak in the shaft that could cause gears to change "hard".

I have an 06 v8. Check for leaking fluids. It's not a terribly expensive fix but could run you 500-900$.:smow:

Greasing the driveshaft only does so much. It works well for the u joints but not for the splines. I had greased my rear shaft 2-3 times before removing it. All the grease was in the yoke, splines were dry. Cleaned the yoke out and greased the splines inside the yoke, nothing on the output shaft. This also helped with the driveline vibration we all experience after lifting.

Hey guys. New here. 03 SR5. I bought last September. I fixed a ton of things on it. (It was fairly neglected) I am having the same issue. Can someone better describe the process of removing the drive shaft to grease the splines? Pictures? I have greased the U joints and slip joints also.
