Smaller tires....

Yes I am asking this question.... I am looking to put smaller tires on the 4R. In the last few months the 4R climbed to 215k+ miles. I am aiming to keep her going but want to minimize costs. The 265/70/16 oem sized Michelin ATXs that are on there are at 80k+ miles and have seen better days. They still ride smooth but showing signs of rot and low tread. Shopping for tires I was looking at used shops in my area. It's difficult to find used 265/70 in 16". There are many 17" but rims are not in my budget. There are many shops that have 245/75/16 which is the same height but narrower by about 3/4". Anyone else go this route or have thoughts?

Tacoma/t4r take offs on craigslist?

If you got 80k miles out of a $700 set of tires you are doing reallllly well. There is nothing like the piece of mind about driving on new tires. The labor alone in fooling with used tires almost makes it a wash.

2 $300 sets of tires + 100 for mount/balance/disposal vs $700-750 for a new set installed....


Also, check discount tire on ebay. They are currently doing $100 off $400+ spent on tires. Sets starting at $450($350 with coupon), shipped.

^^^^^Mounting and balancing is the same for used tires and new ones. By the time I priced good used and had them m & b didn't add up.

245/75/16r works fine, close to 30" diameter.
I run these old studded tires when we get ice. Like a week or 2 a year...maybe.
On old Sequoia/Tacoma steel wheels.
Just not super 'COOL' looking but they work when I need them.

Thanks for that, gonna see if the local store will match it. I am sure they will. Then replace my two worn Dura's to match my 2 newer ones!

Just don't go shorter because your odometer will increase its mileage in a larger increment than what you really drive so it'll look like your vehicle has more miles than it does

I ended up going with a new set of 4 coopers discoverer from the discount tire ebay sale. OEM size 265/70. With rebate they will be $305 before install. There are lots of take offs on CL but everyone wants $500-1000 for a set of 4 take offs.
