Smittybilt compressor on board air

so you just reach into the cab each time you need to check pressure or move to the next tire?

I have two options:

Sit in the car while the tires are inflated. I now have a Y splitter and two hoses so I can fill two tires at once. While sitting in the car I can see the PSI from my scangauge and shut it off from the switch panel.

Stand outside the car and check the pressure with the gauge on the hose. I can turn the compressor on and off with my phone since the switch pros has a bluetooth app.

No, not on my end anyway... others seems to found a way of mounting it without requiring my assistance...

Reviving an old thread.. I was inspired by this and made my own. Seems to hold pretty well. Paint work was kinda shotty as this is the wifes vehicle and she needed it for the evening, but the mount seems quite sturdy. The bolt closest to the driver side cabin was almost inaccessible so 3 out of 4 bolts were used (with blue loctite). So lets see how well this holds up in the long run.

Has anyone experimented with using the Rago Fabrication Secondary Battery Box to mount a Smittybilt 2780? I have the Smitty and am looking for a install kit.

I just wanted to leave some warnings on the smittybilt and install location.

1. My 2781 ran hot, so hot that the one time I let it run in the sun it quickly overheated, shut down and had to cool it down in cabin with A/C for 15 mins before it would reset. I only have 33's and everytime the unit would be smoking and the quick connects would burn. :flamethrwoer2:
2. My 2781 was retired due to cracked hosing. IE brittle rubber from heat. I probably got 40 air ups out of it and I had mine portable the entire time. Would hate to see its life span if it was permanently in the engine bay with heat cycles.
3. Air compressors need cool & clean air to run. They will quickly overheat in hot ambient temps and the engine bay is not cool nor clean. You have to run the engine to power the compressor ie more heat. You cant control if its in direct sunlight or not.

I would recommend keeping these smittybilts in particular portable. They are not designed for permanent mounting based on their heat issues. I also would not put a nicer arb or any other brand in the engine bay.

When I gave mine away I went with the DD under seat mount and a single ARB compressor. Its expensive but slick, a little less CFM but the setup and tear down are effortless. No running from compressor and back to flip switches and check pressure. I will never own another rig without a nice on-board air setup and wish I had done this sooner.
