Smoke coming from AC vents?

i still think you have chain smoking mice living in your vents. thats all Im saying

Not on the 4runner but I did have the same thing happen to me in my Bronco. It turned out that it was low on/losing freon due to a minute crack in the condenser. When I pulled the acc/drier, it almost crumbled in my hands. Maybe there were mice in there after all.

Charge it, and if that doesn't cure it, a dye test may be in your future.

Update: I switched it from Fresh Air to Recirculate today while on the road for work. No fog at all. A/C is colder too.

Mine does this as well. It's noticeably colder. This is the first car/truck I've ever had where it was that drastic of a difference.

This is an evaporator issue and what you are seeing is the chilled moisture. A previous poster is correct, there is a point at which the evaporator reaches a limit and can no longer pull all the moisture out of the air.

If this was a new car I would say have it checked, but you are fine. Older cars had smaller coils and evap systems and it didn't take much to over power them.
