Snapped my first CV today...

arty: Went wheeling today and tried to follow an FJ up a narrow and kind of steep trail. Man, he made it look so easy :sniper: haha Good ol A-trac he says. Got me some battle scars on the fender/bumper too. I guess this is what upgraded front bumpers are for:tongue:?


Anyway, how much am I looking to shell out for an oem CV axle/assembly? I'll probably replace it at home with a buddy. I'm pretty new at wheeling and probably would of made it up if I went with people that have been offroading a lot to guide me. I'll get some pics of the minor damages up soon. Happy wheeling!

I just had my CV axles replaced last week with Napa CV's. They cost me around $110 per side but they do come with a lifetime warranty and they seem to be of good quality.

Don't bother going to the dealer unless you feel like getting boned in the ass for a cv.

I'm running GSP axles fro Advance Auto. Advance Auto Parts: New CV Axle Shaft Assembly by GSP - Part NCV69142 I have yet to actually break an axle and I beat the hell out of em. Only problem I have is tearing the inner boots but that's due to my 3.5" lift in the front. I'd definitely recommend these to someone with no lift.

I wasn't planning on buying it from them directly. Just wanted to see how much. Also, a buddy of mine works there as a tech, I'll see if he can get some kind of discount.. Im still looking at what options I have.

This may be a dumb question but am I able to rebuild my broken cv somewhere. I'd liketo have a spare in case this happens again.

I've been beating the poop out of my napa axles for about 3 years with no ill affects, or broken cv or torn boots! Recommend!!

Toytruck, I run Autozone axles- the boots don't last but have yet to break one. $79 new no core lifetime. Kragens is in process of changing name to O'reillys here on West Coast as well. My preference would be the Napa ones first then the other auto stores. Some of the Auto stores have inconsistent quality unless you get the new and not remanufactured.

I have two spares and can set you up with one if you need to get on the road. Also check Inland Empire Driveline in Pomona. They have a really good reputation and I believe can rebuild a CV but may be cost prohibitive.

There's a guy on Yotatech that is selling his used OEM CV's for $40/pr if you really want to save money.
