Snatch Strap Question

My understanding is they are simply for strapping the vehicle to the shipping container floor. Not at all for supporting the weight of the vehicle. Obviously strong enough most of the time.............

I heard that too but never got any real confirmation of it, just what people have guessed. Yes it probably what they are used for , but a also feel why would Toyota build a truck/suv with this type of off road capability without having hook up points . Also there are only 2 in front and 1 in back to where I think if they wanted secure points used for shipping only there would be one at each corner. Or they can tie up to the frame without having the cost of putting loops on . The back 1 loop looks slightly heavier than the front 2.

As for attachment points, the sheet metal loops found on vehicles are tie down points for transport, ONLY.

hook/loop that is properly welded to the frame is ok too,

Just to keep things clear, 4th gens have welded loops attached to the the frame....not sheet metal loops.

Good catch , I missed that....lol they are pretty heavy/thick and nice welds on them but relatively small compared to some. I also noticed the one on the back side is removable / replaceable if breakage occurs maybe ??

Dunno, but I do seem to recall it being bolted on. The hitch is the only place I'd want to use in the back, though.

The only purpose the loop has served for me is as a kind of bumper guard when coming off of obstacles. As you can imagine, it's effectiveness in that application is limited.

I agree with the hitch / shackle for pulling.

Lots of people have used them for recovery and we haven't yet heard of an instance of them breaking off.
