Sniv's (Maybe) Mild 2nd Build

Let's jump right into it. I picked this up today for $1000. Was in a slight wreck, the air bags went off and the core support is a little jacked. It's a 98 Limited with 180k, elocker, sunroof, leather, 5100/OME suspension, some pretty newish looking tires, new battery, etc. Runs and drives, although the radiator is pretty jammed into the fan so haven't done much besides drive it on and off of my trailer.

Got it from Salt Lake City, besides the gas tank skid and the hitch receiver it seems to be really clean actually.

Like I said needs new air bags and then a windshield, otherwise interior seems pretty solid.

To be honest, I jumped on the sale when I saw it and drove 3+ hours to get it, so didn't really ask any questions or look the truck over that much. Basic look over seemed to be fine. I pulled the hood and bumper off when I got it back to the shop to inspect it more.

It appears it was in a wreck before this wreck, since the passenger front frame rail was shittily welded on at some point, and then just snapped off essentially from this wreck. You can also see in the above picture how the A/C lines are like duct taped to the core support, and the windshield resi filler is zip tied on and the hood prop snap is also missing, I'm assuming in the original wreck that the core support got busted up along with the frame rail.

Essentially the passenger side is kind of caved in. The core support on the top is actually fine up until the end of the radiator, but the easiest way will be to cut it all out and weld a new one in. The passenger wheel well might be a bit tricky to make nice again. While I'm in there I'll fix the frame rail too.

So yea, this is my new 3rd gen "build". Not sure what the plan is, for now just fix it up and drive it and see what I want to do. I'll most likely keep it all basic bolt on stuff if I decide to keep it for awhile, maybe throw some LT on it if I'm feeling rich.

I can see this “mild” build turning into another long travel build or SAS’d on 40’s with an LS1 swap

Finally touched it a bit, but not much.

Fan clutch was bent so stole it and the fan off my white 4runner.

The whole inside of the frame rail isn't even attempted to get welded on :shrug: Not sure who thought this was a great idea back in the day.

Otherwise, the passenger corner seems the most crinkled but really not that bad. Driver side looks a lot better but a hair squished. None of it really justifies more than grabbing it with some pliers and pulling it out. Not sure of the condition of the windshield wiper resi, but it hasn't fallen out haha. Not sure if I'll replace the passenger fender, might be able to straight it out to an acceptable level.

I have the new core support and radiator here, I'm getting my headlights back that Connor stole to drive the 4625 SRQ racetruck to Phoenix and he's also sending my the air bags from the racetruck. A/C condenser is ordered, and some other random stuff that I can't remember. I need to order a hood still, and I'm up in the air on what to do with the bumper. Probably just order one of the new True North Fab DIY bumper kits and then some of the LED filler panels from SRQ for blinkers, but I have a hard time pulling the trigger on that much money when I'll have spent less than the DIY kit on fixing everything about the truck in the end probably.

I think there's a body shop right next door too, once I get the hood I'm thinking of taking it over there to get it color matched and maybe the rear hatch too which seems off.

Right now I'm planning on just selling it when I finish. I thought about it and it doesn't really fit in my vehicle lineup; it doesn't get good enough gas mileage to replace my truck, and there's no need for it for a camping rig since we have my girlfriend's V8 4th gen that is all mid-traveled out and armored a little, so that leaves the highly modified category and I have my racecar build for that (or my white 3rd gen eventually) and don't want to spend time or money fabricating on this one. If I knew I could break even I'd probably throw a bolt on LT kit and a dope rear end setup, but I know if I do anything beyond fixing the core support damage then I'll just be losing money overall. At least those are my CURRENT thoughts, so if anyone is interested in a 3rd gen in a few weeks let me know :lmao: Otherwise I'll keep posting my blisteringly slow progress.
