These are the snorkels they are currently sold by one place in the u s a. I know the importer personally and wheel with him regularly and am trying to swing a deal on these.

I can only speak for myself when I say I never intended to pay without seeing the snorkel first but don't think anyone else plans to either.
 
i think im with LINY on waiting for the ARB snorkel... i personally think it looks more fitting to the 3rd gen. Wish u were getting a group buy on an ARB bc id definitely be in for one of those!

Wow. I'm IMPRESSED where you take your 4Runners (deep water!)!!!!!!

Now that I know WHAT a snorkel is, that opens up the next logical question based on (just reading) these references:

It's a given I had never heard of a snorkel before, but, it seems the sole purpose of the snorkel is to allow you to drive into deeper water (> about 3 feet) than the level of your air intake ... so ... the natural question that arises instantly is ... after installing the snorkel ... what do you do about protecting other components from water damage?

 That is, after the snorkel, what do you do about protecting your ...
- Ignition system (e.g., distributor & coils & wires, if equipped)?
- MAF?
- Door seal integrity (and carpets if water seeps in)?
- Radiator fan?
- axle vents?
- transmission and transfer case vent?
- etc.

Seems to me that any snorkel buy should also come with a kit to protect the components listed above.

God, I could only imagine how much a kit like that would cost. it's best to just buy these water prep parts separately since most things you mentioned can be had at an autoparts store instock.
 
-Axle vents: diff breather mod.
-Door seals: if the car is moving with a decent rate through the water, it shouldn't be a problem. Unless you have tube doors, you should not be complaining about water in the cab.
-MAF: unless your intake tube is not sealed to water, this shouldn't be a problem.
Ignition wires: any well taken care of engine should have this taken care of already.
radiator fan: Becomes a propeller, WIN! jk. but it's just a bit more resistance for it, no biggie.
 
Now, is a snorkel just a sealed attachment to the intake? Is this something that can be easily fabricated?
Not to take away from the group sale of snorkels and pain medication. I'm all in.

Yeah, I'm just looking for something with a clean finish. Many people make their own snorkels....some look better than others. There was a dude that made one for his landcruiser that looked pretty badazz for homemade. I'll get a pic up in a sec.

I've always thought it would look so out of place to have a faux snorkel on our bone stock Sienna. Kinda saying "soccer mom from Hell!"

I'll Say it's nice. Cleaner than almost any corporate built Snorkel I've seen. Could easily use 3.5" Exhaust and have it bent up and then painted for pretty cheep. Wouldn't rust and would be totally unique. It's going on the Mod list "homemade Snorkel" Sorry for the group buy hijack:gun6:
 
lol ya ur right CJ, well looks like we need to get in contact with ARB to see wat kind of deal we can get for a group buy of their snorkels...
