how high can the water come up the vehicle before getting in trouble?
Depends since there's different kinds of trouble you can get into with water. A swift current doesn't have to be too deep to push you downstream so that can be trouble. You can also potentially get water seeping in through your doors which isn't fun to clean out.
If you're talking about hydrolocking, the air intake is just above your passenger side front wheel. Of course you can also do bad things in shallower water if you enter or go through it too fast like this idiot found out...
