Snorkel

And how many of those folks apart from you have off-road crap on their car and would go so far as to run a snorkel? I have seen one 5th gen with a spacer lift in Houston in the two years since I bought a 5th gen. Don't think he'd be running out and putting on a snorkel either... Companies make things to sell a bunch of and make lots of money. I don't see there being a huge market compared to jeeps n stuff. Just saying.

You're point is absolutely valid. I'm just saying that owning a 5th Gen is no longer unique like it was 2010. There are a lot of them out there and if only .1% of 5th Gen owners end up buying a snorkel over the next couple of years that's still a decent potential market.

I've been talking to CBI about doing one. They said they'd be up for it. I'll volunteer my rig as the beta/donor.

I think it would be good to know how many others would actually pony up and at what kind of $$$? I'd assume $350-550.

I'll be the first to volunteer. @cbioffroadfab, how many would need to play for you guys to make one for the masses?

I'd be in if I could get one for under $500

I'd be in as well...

I've been down since 2010!!!

I'm down!! The way I look at it, with a snorkel I would HAVE to submerge my vehicle in water. :reddance:

I agree. I'd be in if it's close to the price of a Safari snorkel.

Count me in :hungry:

I'm in since I started this thread!

I don't know if anyone cares, but I have a production 5th gen snorkel in my possession, we (Pathfinder Outdoors) are considering selling these. They are from Taiwan and made of reinforced fiberglass. I posted a youtube vid of the snorkel in had a couple months ago.

The reason people don't want to buy these is because they cost $500-600 with shipping. If we had 10-15 pre orders we could get the price down around $375 per snorkel.

The weather is getting warm enough to attempt the install.

If you are really interested, please let me know and I will move forward setting up a group buy.

nothing actually showing it on a truck though, eh? the audio on your vid is barely audible on my laptop, but don't you say something about the fibreglass being a lot more brittle than plastic? would seem to suggest that it is more susceptible to damage, no?

What's going to be made of? ABS? I'll say I'm in. #12 ;)

My fj snorkels are ABS and they can take a direct tree hit and show no signs. But these are fiberglass.

Something to keep in mind, before Safari came along all snorkels were fiberglass. The abs is cheaper and faster to make, but fiberglass is still used on many models around the world that Safari does not support.

As far as this snorkel.

As far as I can tell it is good quality, but is simply have been too cold and to scared to install it on my SR5. I guess I could do it on my trail, but it will have to be in June.

I think no one has tried it because of the $615 price....but in the interest of progress I bought one and had it shipped. I have a annual bond for import so I came away right at 600, if you import them yourself you could be slapped with a single bond to the tune of about $300. $900 is way too much for any snorkel.

I digress, if there is interest I am willing to import these, but there would have to be a pretty big commitment, I'm not willing to place their min 20 snorkel order and take the $5k risk alone if you know what I'm saying.

Take a look at the link above to see the snorkel installed on a 2010 SR5.

And just to clarify these are made to fit our truck exactly and this company has a lot higher quality product than many I have seen. Every time I go to Shanghai I make a point to visit with a couple companies that do off road manufacturing. These people are in Taiwan and the quality is higher there than most of china. They even offer full skids for 5th gens.
