That's why a pull plow (as seen in the link I posted above) is such a great option. Since it attaches to the rear hitch, there's really no abuse to the front end like there is with a conventional plow. And the 4Runner's fully boxed frame has no problems whatsoever supporting the weight of a pull plow.
Plus, these pull plows leave zero evidence of ever having a plow attached at all. It's completely plug-n-play.

I've used one of these before on an older silverado. Seemed to work pretty good. Good excuse to get a front receiver hitch as well.

For the price of the plow you could probably buy a decent snow blower or even a small plow for a riding lawn mower if you have one.
Really? Not me. I'd much rather attach a pull plow to my rear hitch and clean my driveway in the warmth and comfort of my 4Runner instead of walking out in the cold making several passes with a snowblower while the wind blows the snow back in my face. To me, it's a no-brainer!

That's not even an option for me. I love my snow and especially my snow sports. I could never live in a place that doesn't have snow.
The no-brainer is that with a snowblower you are abusing a $2,000 machine, rather than a $40,000 machine. Putting a snowplow on an F-150 voids the warranty -- you have to get a SuperDuty if you want to use it as a plow truck and maintain the warranty. The F-150 frame is a lot heavier than a 4Runner frame.

I'm not talking about a conventional snow plow. I'm talking about a pull plow, which attaches to the rear hitch. There's no abuse whatsoever. Even a V6 4Runner is designed to pull 5000 lbs. A pull plow with a full load of snow isn't anywhere near 5000 lbs. There's no concern about abusing my $30,000 4Runner at all.

This is exactly why I am sticking with the best option is a small tractor with a plow. I baby my 4Runner, the hardest use it's seen is some old access roads in the national forest on some hiking/fishing trips. Sure you're in the cold, but the cold isn't that bad. Plus, I don't know how much you have to plow but any reasonable sized driveway I'd rather have the extra maneuverability of a small tractor of a mid-sized SUV.

I have a snowblower too.... but I only have about a 30' driveway.
A snowblwoer verses a plow usually equates to the length of your driveway and the time difference to clean the driveway using one or the other (and cost of purchase for a snowplower verses a plow).
And if I lived off the road a decent amount, those trailer hitch models would be a great idea and pretty economical, considering how much you would have to pay in just one winter to have someone plow it for you.

:A pull plow attaches to the rear hitch, which is attached to the frame. A front plow attaches to the plow mount which attaches to the frame. Not a whole lot of difference.
