Snowquester - DC

It appears the sky will be falling in DC on Tues. and Wed. this week. Forecasters are calling for 9" - 15" of that heavy wet white stuff. Now I know you Yankees and Canadians scoff at a few inches but down here in the DMV this is a bigger issue than the inability to pay federal workers. That said, my question is:

How much snow can a stock SR5 running Dunlops handle. I have a 30 mi commute in to the city and don't want to end up like this -

Now I have driven through 3 - 5 inches many times but this will be a new test for the rig.

Thoughts?

Not sure on the SR5's, but the Limited with the Geolanders did fine in 40" of snow here in NC WV back in late October - early November.

With the temps being above freezing, I would imagine the roads will be clear in no time and you will not even have to worry about it.

Uncle Sam says no choice in the matter. It'll be dark on the drive in and out but I'll do my best to get some pics!

40" is pretty deep?! All powder? Plowed?
 
Are you new to DC? It's in a snowless vortex where surrounding areas get pounded and we get a few flakes.

All kidding aside I've had my SR5 with General Grabber AWs in 8" of unplowed snow and it's barely noticeable (aside from stopping distance). I wouldn't worry too much, put it in 4HI and go.
 
Well, my wife's Highlander (surprizingly) kicked a$$ in the blizzard we had here in 2011 (30+inches). So, I'm assuming the 4runner will do pretty well if you drive sensibly.
 
I have a feeling it is all just hype... It'll probably just be rain for us.

If we do get hit stay safe on your drive in!
 
Thanks for the advice! I am quite familiar with the DC vortex.. something about all the hot air coming from the WH and the Hill? The plows have been waiting for this all year so the snow shouldn't remain on the road for long. We'll see!
 
I hope it snows! bring it on. haven't been able to drive my truck in the snow since i bought it :-(

i'll be driving from Arlington to McLean, which is about 5 miles. lol

I should have a lil fun in route to work which is about 15 miles. But unfortunately when I get there, I gotta switch out to a POS Ford Crown Vic :(
 
We got ours stuck. Heres the story!!! After finally talking my wife into taking the TE out to see how it would do she decided to try it. She was very reluctant, and mentioned over and over that I would get stuck. I backed out of the drive way no problem, but the alley was a different story. There was about a 2 and a half foot drift (It didnt look that high to begin with) that I attempted to go through. I made it about half way, or just far enough to make it high center on the now compacted snow. After going to the low side and locking up the rear end I still could not get out. Imagine my wife's "I told you so" look. At this point it was either dig myself out, or back out the Tahoe and pull myself out. Going for the less work idea I managed to squeeze the Tahoe between the fence and the 4r. I got it pulled out and it went right back into the garage. To be fair, the Tahoe could not make it through either (2.5 Lift Nitto Terra Grapplers), But I was able to back out of the drift in it. We (my wife) decided to stay home until the roads had cleared off. Heres a pic of the drift in our front yard. I am about 6 feet tall.

[MENTION=81677]Preston[/MENTION] - Spent 6 years in Lubbock, guess you realize that pic is a shot of Soncy after last week's storm up there in Amarillo. No shame in giving it a go! Glad you had a Tahoe for the recovery!

I'm defintely going to keep some gloves and a recovery strap in the back this week!

yea i was on the roads at 5am.. wasn't anything worth taking pics of.. and really didn't mount up to much
