So apparently Toyota change the license plate frame

So somebody pressed the key barrel too hard and broke the plastic piece holding it. The plastic piece is attached to the whole license plate frame, so I had to replace the whole thing in order to get the key barrel to stay in place. I have a '99 and I went to the JY and picked one up off a '98. Not sure if the year makes a difference or the trim level, but the '98 is slightly smaller. Still fits in place just fine, but it shows more of the paint.

It changes again after that. I'm not sure what year it starts 2000 or 2001?, but the 4runner emblem no longer goes on the plate frame but rather on the body. They implemented a lip into the top part of the frame. Whether there is a size diff, probably.

i really like the 4runner badge thre though. Looks like i'm swapping to a 98 style frame

I kinda like the badge there too. It's a really good spot if you want to go badge-less, yet still have the 4Runner name on there.

I especially like the fact that it shows more of the paint. I feel like the paint is there, it might as well show!

Compound? What type/brand?... I am looking to this as well and I also have "scared" areas on my roof from the roof rack rubbing

Turtle wax rubbing compond works very well followed up with a coat of wax on top. Mothers also makes a good version but i have Turtle wax so that what i am familiar with. Also works great at removing offroad pin stripes.

No, but thanks for mentioning it... I'll have to try some. The line from the original plastic piece is from before the wash that day. I though it would come out, but I guess the automated machine doesn't hit the hatch to hard to get the rough stuff off. I'll try that and see what it does.

Do you think it would help with that really bad spot on the plastic piece or just the painted area around it?

It is my experience you can't go wrong with anything made by 3M assuming it is the right product for the job.
