Wow what an a**hole....
Hope you guys are alive out there in the desert hell, look what IM doing...
J/k I love Hawaii. Have a good trip
What island are you staying at?

We're on Oahu. This is the first time I've ever been here. It's awesome! I'm very thankful my in laws invited us.

Although after driving a mini van all week I'm very excited to get back to my 4Runner

o'ahu is super touristy and boring but if you drive around the highways along the coast of the island there are some cool beaches to chill on. and a shrimp truck to eat at. just stay the F out of honolulu.

Ahhhhh Hawaii braddah. I used to love Oahu until that island started becoming a shit show. Really crowded with a bunch of annoying tourists from the Midwest and Japan. I love Hawaiian food, especially local joints but even those places are being over run. We just got back from the Big Island and that place was chill. Place is huge and spread out. No night life but never really crowded, except when they have the Iron man competition (Kona). We are hitting Maui this September and I would say of all the Islands, this place is our favorite. However, I hear Maui is starting to get crowded as well.

my wife's sister lives on kauai and is getting married next year. we'll go then.

she had to be in honolulu for work last year for five days, which happened to coincide with her birthday. her boss felt bad for taking her on her birthday so she bought me a ticket with her points and i flew out on a thursday. she also extended the rental of the hotel room for one night, so we got to stay in one of those huge super nice hotels in downtown honolulu for two nights, then we stayed with friends on the army base for two nights. the hotel was full of pasty white midwesters and asian tourists. it was P chill, though. we rented a 4-door jeep and drove around the island. took the roof off and drove through some mud and one puddle came up over the windshield and got us soaked. it was actually pretty funny. found some chill beaches with no one around. all in all it was very fun, but i never want to visit oahu again. not my thing.

Having my rear axel seals replaced this week and want to do the diff breather mod. I remember seeing a post in this thread or somewhere in the SoCal section about the parts needed. I have searched but cannot find it. I did find some posts in other threads in the 3rd gen section but looking for the one that was in the SoCal section. Anybody know where it is and a link would be great. Thanks in advance.

This is the post I used to install mine. The install was very easy since it was already on a lift getting the seal replaced.

Hey Chris, the picture looks like you're about to take your wife hostage hahahaha. My only beef with Kauai is there is no Zippys.

So has anyone here modified their rear shock mount (a la LTDSC) or know what someone would charge for that?

I snagged a 2.5 front/2.0 rear Fox combo from a TW member in the area, and while I'll be happy with the fronts (after they get DSC added and are rebuilt) I'm trying to figure out whether I want to keep the 2.0 rears or upgrade to the 883-26-004 (2.5's), or look at doing a full 10" like LTDSC did. Really not sure of the cost of doing the latter though.

I'd love some feedback, since this is all a bit out of my wheelhouse.

I haven't even thought about it honestly. I've got the extended length Icons in the rear paired with the metal tech springs and I get more than enough flex and articulation for 95% of the trails I've been on. There's been maybe 2 times that I've 3 wheeled it coming off an obstacle.

When I talked with Metaltech he said I was too heavy to make use of those springs and that I should go a more traditional route, or look at custom if I cared to.

When I talked to any vendor or manufacturer they say I really should run 2.5s (except bilstein-they say 5100s should be fine).

Interesting. I'd think their heavy 3" springs would work fine for you. Don't run 5100s in the rear. Ever. They suck. I'm running 2.0s with remote reservoir in the rear, but I'm not as heavy as you are either.

I was hoping they would as well. I might call him back at some point and see if he still says the same.

I'm running 5100s all around right now-the sonoran steel kit. It works OK, but obviously could be better. I know the 2.0s I have will be an upgrade, but I really don't want to do this twice, hence all the questions at this point.

I ran 5100s for about 2 months before I got rid of them. Such a terrible ride. Anything you put in the back is going to be an improvement over them.

I feel you wanna do the rears with that kind of set up you have a couple options
One would be to add shock hoops in your upper rear wheel Wells giving you a higher mounting point for the shock allowing you to fit a true extended travel shock with an actual reason to even need a rear shock with resis in the rear of our rigs will also allow for a 2.5 w/res and 14+ of travel also would be using a different type of shock in any style of shock you choose ..we currently use shocks with top stem mount for bolting down the shocks top mounting point. You would need to get shocks with eyelit mounting pointing like the shocks on the rear of a Tacoma or tundra etc..basically we bolt on vertically they bolt on horizontally.
You need help installing any of the suspension you picked up let me know I knock that shiiit out right for you.

The other option is relocating the bottom shock mount/ add a completely new mount actually, and this would be mount inward the direction of your diff creating a farther mounting point and angling your shocks allowing for a longer shock travel length

Then there's doing a custom fab canteliever rear suspension you can have built
Starting at 5k to adventure down that path.
