Is there a particular reason that you went with 2.5 in front and 2.0 in the rear? Does the larger diameter shock just soak up the bumps better because there's more fluid inside?

I went 2.0 with resi in the rear because I didn't want just a 2.0 single and I didn't want to pay the extra for a 2.5 at the time. In the front I think the extended travel only come in 2.5s, but with the larger diameter and the type of wheeling I do I figured it would suit me fine plus I believe you can add resi's on later if you want.

Also how do you adjust the ride height on these coilovers? Do you just move the preload collar up and down? On the coilovers I'm used to the mounting perch for the coilover moves up\ down independent of the preload collar not disturbing the ride quality.

Yeah you just move the collar to adjust preload with a spanner wrench. Still waiting on my wrench but I'm sure I have something in the garage that will work.

Hmmm I wonder why offroad coilovers are like that seems like the higher the ride height the worse ride quality gets.

The coilovers I'm used to look like this and you can adjust height independent of preload by loosening that bottom collar and moving the strut mount up/ down.

Dunno, maybe because they're heavier springs? In all reality you want to match the spring to your weight instead of adjusting preload because you start to compress the spring too much to get the height you want. When I get a bumper I'll upgrade to a 14" 700 lb spring which should afford less preload to get the ride height correct.

Yeah that makes total sense! I've always known that messing with preloads too much is a no...no as far as ride quality goes.

Took off the running boards today and looks a ton better. Also went out to Holy Jim for the first shake down run just to test everything out and see how capable this truck is stock. I was pretty impressed how well it performed being stock on highway tires!

I kinda been eyeing the toytec 2.5 boss front coilover, and I think [MENTION=128995]TK-422[/MENTION] didn't you just install some on your 5th gen how do you like them so far?

I went with 2.5 because this is a heavy vehicle and have seen a few pics of the shafts breaking 2.0 shocks. The 2.5 shocks have 7/8" shafts and the larger shocks are like adding a reservoir.

I have driven it on the street for about 300 miles this week and you feel higher in the air for sure. They are a little more bouncy on the street with 650Lb coils but I plan on adding a slimline and winch at some point so I went with the heavier ones.

I only ran about 1000 feet on a dirt road. I went pretty fast and it felt great. haha too bad it was ten minutes after washing it and made it dirty again.

Still it's only a small sample since I just got it installed. Hopefully a fender trim and alignment tomorrow then I will be ready for tires.

I didn't get much done this weekend. I dropped off the relatives at LAX around noon. Bonus: stopped by Tito's Tacos to make the trip worth it.

The only thing I managed to do was remove the stickers from the UCA and clean it up with a little goof off. I think it looks much cleaner now.

What about the Toytec boss? Or is that etched on the coilover.

I'm guessing it's a quality screen printed paint on the shocks. It looks fine.

I didn't like the stick on letters. A couple had been jacked from the install and the color didn't match so it was annoying me. I was looking at doing the trim for 285s but decided against it and started peeling letters off instead.

After many times going back and forth on it I am pretty sure I would be better off with 275s that I was planning on from the beginning.
