So Cal 4Runner BS Thread

Honestly you could get by without either if you get a good deep cycle with the highest aH that you can fit in the stock location. As long as you're moving daily and giving the battery a chance to recharge before the fridge runs all evening/night you're mostly going to be fine. If you're out solo, keep one of the jump packs, otherwise keep a pair of jumper cables for just in case situations.

Dunno, I went straight to dual batteries, hahah. I picked up a cheap marine deep cycle from Sears, but it's only like 80 aH and I bleed it dry after a couple days of the fridge running in 80-100 degree weather. I'll be looking at replacing it eventually. I've heard good things about the AGV batteries, but they aren't cheap.

There's a few good batteries out there you could use ..agv' spoke Drunner97 mentioned are badass no doubt but with a price tag. You could run the Die Hard platinum I think it is...their top of the line battery I've heard great things, also Optima but run the yellow top and the next group size up or run there blue top marine deep cycle battery it recharges the fastest out of the three Optima's. and you will just have to run longer cables for any of these, but that doesn't matter cause at that point you might as well do the" Big 3 "upgrade if you plan on doing any of this anyways, running all the extra accessories.

But there's also interstate batteries that make some killer deep cycle as well
Some made a thread that list the different batteries and comparison.

There we go add the big 3 upgrade to the list! Thanks Miah. I was actually looking at the optima and die hard. This info helps a lot.

Big 3 is the best way to get the most out of the stock alt. I upgraded everything from the Big 3 to my dual battery setup to 1/0 gauge just to eliminate any voltage loss with the 240a alt.

I've seen lots of prematurely failing yellow tops lately. The die hard agm are good (personal experience) and I've also heard good things about Duralast agm.

Anyone have first hand experience here with the 6112 and 5160 Bilstein setups? I went into 4wheel parts to compare sizes between them and a king/fox/icon setup. I have been going back and forth between either setup.

tire talk...

as much as i want new discoverer AT3s, the budget is tight right now after buying my runner but i still want to replace the garbage mismatched highway tires that are on there now. i found these coopers on craigslist for $200 installed, they're used with 55% tread left. i can't tell what model they are, but $200 is sounding good to me for some decent HT/AT mixed-use tires. i figure these can get me through the next 6 months and i can get some new ones in the spring. thoughts?

AT3s? I wouldn't take those off road, they look almost like slicks. I'd keep looking.

Boom!!! This is what I have. Price is damn good and it's an AGM battery with better specs than most.

What's the aH on those? And are they deep cycle? One thing you have to remember with your starting battery, especially if there's a fridge connected, is that you're going to be draining it and recharging it on the regular. Normal daily driving you aren't going to be draining the battery that much in between starts. It's the draining/recharging that kills batteries quicker.

Take my house battery right now, after the gym it was at 11.4v and the fridge was off because it's been almost 100 degrees and the fridge has been working overtime lately. The drive to/from work isn't enough to fully charge it, but it's usually enough for the 8 hours I'm at work. If that was your starting battery, you'd be about stranded.

I would say no to these.... you'll be lucky to get 2-3 months out of them safely.

Agreed. Take a micrometer and measure the remaining tread life. I believe anything at or below 3/32 is done. I can see the wear marks are getting ready to show on the tread. I would guess they are more 30% tread life rather than 55%.

Ill be doing a turn around trip to Vegas in the next day or two to go pick up suspension from Chas at MRT. If anyone else wants me to get something for them on the way lmk I have extra room in my car.

So... before I get frustrated & beat the hell out of the KDSS cylinder & break some KDSS lines, anyone want to help me install my driver side slider? I'll supply food & beer

I don't know the aH and it's definitely not a deep cycle battery. I would only recommend this battery as a starter and general purpose battery if not going with a duel battery setup. I don't plan on going duel or installing a fridge, so this battery fits my needs.

kevstaarr I can help you on Saturday possibly if you can make your way up to me. I'm already going to be installing a lift on a different 5th gen that day.

I have that brand for the 03 4runner. What accessories do you have plugged to it ie fog lights, light bar etc.?

Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk

(1) set LED lights, (1) set of Hella 500 foglights, and a winch. That's it, no big stereo system. And I also did the Big 3 upgrade as well and plan on upgrading the alternator when this one takes a dump.
