i have a bad/sad feeling that total automotive isn't going to sell me the ARB stuff at the prices they quoted me. 
got killer black friday pricing from them, asked for referrals to installation shops in SoCal. got quotes. tried to get back to total automotive but i couldn't get in touch. finally got in touch with a guy two days ago. he said he's going to have to look into it but still haven't heard back. figured i'd give them a full day to get back to me but i'm thinking this is not promising. i'm going to call them today but i get the feeling they don't want to honor the price they gave me.

I can't offer any OC-specific info, but www.soara.org might have something. Also, try searching on the ARRL website: Find an Amateur Radio License Class in Your Area
I wasn't able to free up a full Saturday for one of the cram-and-test sessions, so I used an Android app and took online test questions (eham.net, QRZ.com, hamstudy.org, etc.) which worked well for me. I supposed it depends on your preferred learning style.

thanks! i sent them an email asking for info on any upcoming classes. they don't have any scheduled right now.
can we get back to compressor talk? xmas is around the corner and my in-laws keep bugging me about what i want. how's the viair 90P? or the masterflow tsunami 1050? both have great reviews on amazon. seems there are good compressors in the $70-90 range but i don't want to get on that will take me an hour to air up four tires.

I have the viair 88p, got it for Christmas last year. Been pretty happy with it so far. It airs up all 4 tires from 14lbs to 35lbs in less than 10 minutes

Story time.
So [MENTION=133319]MACT4R[/MENTION] inspired me to get a soldering kit and clean up some wiring. Ok truth be told, my front passenger side speaker quit working and I figured it had to do with the crappy twist & tape job i did on the wiring harness for the headunit I put in a while back.
well, if i had to get into the center console, i may as well put in my new paranoid fabrication switch panel too. kill two birds and all that, right?
So early saturday morning, being the super productive man that i am, i took apart the center console (thanks to [MENTION=128995]TK-422[/MENTION], for advising me to make my life easier and telling me to get trim removers) ripped out my headunit and wiring harness. well let me tell you, soldering the right way and making it look pretty is not very easy for a first timer! on top of that, because my solder globs were so messy, i had a hard time doing nearly every single heat shrink tube.
so long story short, between waiting for plastidip to dry in order to put on another coat and trying to solder each and every wire in the harness, it became painfully clear this was not going to be finished by noon. noon was my deadline because i had to eat lunch and then get to krav training for my belt promotion (sidebar: yes i earned a new belt!).
after krav, my body was beat. i ate some crackers and promptly fell asleep on my dog while watching tv. really not a bad way to spend a saturday evening. but guess what? that means there's still shit all over my garage and a 4runner with the center stack removed.
sunday morning comes around and clearly i'm not going to make it to cleghorn (not that i responded to that thread anyway). i have errands to run so the wiring harness will have to wait. at least the switch panel is done now. slap everything together well enough to drive and i'm off.
well, folks must've mistaken my 4runner for a bmw this morning because in my slipslop job of putting the center stack back on, i somehow missed plugging in the hazards, which means no turn signals. so that was fun. i felt like a total ass driving around. i did confirm that my brake lights were working at least.
finally come sunday afternoon i have some time to finish the crappy soldering job. and everything is put back into the 4runner. all speakers are confirmed to be working as well as my turn signals. victory.
and that, my friends, is how you turn a simple job into a weekend-long bumble-fest.

That is one hell of a weekend brotha! I find that what I think is simple always turn into something bigger and requires deep breathing. HAHA! It took me twice as long when I did my dual battery but got it done. I still have to hook up the blue sea but that shouldn't take to long. Now I'm thinking about adding inverter, tankless water heater with a water pump and shower head (thanks death valley run/crew). Anyways glad you got it done!

Oh I'll be finding a better way to get heated water into my water port. Thing worked great but goddamn that water was cold.

Did you miss the conversation with Greg? His buddy Spencer is running a heat exchanger connected to the radiator line to heat up the clean water going through the exchanger and a small RV pump to pull from a water source. When the water isn't pouring it recirculates through a closed loop system to stay hot.

Hahah, yeah I couldn't remember if it was you or Miah that was there when we were talking about it. I'd love to see [MENTION=128841]Spenny[/MENTION] 's setup too though because it's going to be more 4runner based. I have to imagine TW Spencer utilized the truck bed for some of the plumbing. Lots of empty space under there to work with.

Yeah we have to figure the hot water if we're going to do multiple off grid camping cause cold water shower is not gonna cut it. Too damn cold!

ha, I don't have on board water or a heater! I mooch off others! The system will be simple, and not too expensive. Buddy uses an ecotemp thing a majigit that works great, almost too hot sometimes.
I'm not interested in those heat exchangers that plumb through the coolant - too many areas where something could go wrong and leak. Plus you'll need your car running to get hot water. Those propane ecotemps are pretty much instant

I just need to remember to bring a funnel next time so it makes pouring the boiling water into the tank easier. The other problem was filling up the tank from the freezing ass cold spring coming out of the side of the hill we were on. I expect when we hit spring/summer temps the water will get more lukewarm in the tank so it won't take as much boiling water to take a decent shower.
