Any suggestions for some light off-roading in So Cal this weekend. Trying to avoid anza borrego and the heat, but looking for some nice calm trails and an area to camp. Big Bear maybe or up near gorman? Any advice would be great.

Cool thanks. That's the area I really wanted to check out but I can't get up there till late Friday night, and since I don't know the area that well I don't want to be stuck hunting for a first-come, first-served spot at night. The pics from up there look great though.

Anyone have any experience trying to get a spot up there in the summer with no-reservations? It may not be a big deal.

As for getting there late, need not worry as it looks like everyone will be arriving late.

I hope to leave the 71/60/91/15 area around 8-9ish to arrive around 10-11ish? There will be people coming down from San Diego for the first time so don't worry about getting lost.

There will be people coordinating the exact camping location in the next few weeks so that even first timers will be able to find the exact camping location (critical to ensure that everyone will get there).

As for RSVP, I don't plan on rsvp'n anything at all. All I plan to do is show up w/ the Adventure Pass (required for camping in the San Berdooo Mountains) and go from there (you can pick this up at any local sports store - sports chalet, REI, etc etc).

We're hoping to get about 12-15 truck if possible ranging from purely rookie to advanced so it'll be a great experience for individuals as well as families :)

Hope to see you there!

i'll be camping at big bear the same weekend you guys will be up there. at first i setup this trip to join you guys, but then it turns out all my friends are coming along (plus we're towing a boat). hope you guys have fun tho! i'll be looking out for a caravan of 4runners.

If you want to join us, feel free. The trails we'll cover will range from easy to difficult so all levels are welcomed. :)

for more information, HuiDaddy, please visit the yotatech thread as shown above on the previous messages.

also basic camping gear and a frs radio and/or cb radio is all you need.

lots of food and water ofcourse cuz it's dry season. Sun block and a hat/cap would be nice too!
