so i guess 255/85r16 KM2s are gone . . what about maxxis mud dawgs?

i cant seem to figure out why everyone is out of 285's 255's for the 16" rim . .. but thats besides the point. i know theres some of you who wheel w the 255/85 mud dawgs and i think thats my best bet for a good offroad tire in the correct size and price range. i can get these for 180 a pop and for that, ill take the risk in quality i guess. i can always have two sets of tires. i really cant wait until they are back in stock...thats the main issue.

thoughts appreciated.

idk about the mud dawgs, but i have the big horns, not that size but i love the tires, they are great, i have no complaints and they have done everything i have asked of them and more without complaints

yeah so they are the maxxis bighorns. oops. if they are straight i guess ill snag em. i just want more clearance and highway efficiency at the same time.

i like em, i have E rated ones so they are a bit on the heavy side, but i run them at 60psi and even with the E rated and wider 285 i sill pull 18+ mpg on the freeway (thats with all my armor too)

cons the bighorns are a tad noisy they have that "mud tire hum/roar" to them, but honestly i dont notice it now 8months later, im used to it nor do i mind it when i first got them, but i do remember thinking "wow these things are noisy"

I have the bighorns as well. They do hum which isn't a huge complaint. However, my only complaint is that they are soft. I haven't heard of E rated ones, I was unaware of that. Mine are D rated which I believe are better for our vehicles (at stock gear ration). I like them, but I'm in the rocks a lot so they've chunked and cracked the tread easily. Great tire but I think my next tires will be KM2's mainly for what I use my truck for.

man ive had mine thought some really bad rocks and mud, and i only have like one or two chunks on mine and ive been hard on them, that sucks, man try taking them to a tire shop who sells them and see if they can work something out for you... yeah i love the E rated ones and they surprisingly air down and flex real well when at like 15psi and ive never popped a bead, and ive beat on these things pretty hard, climbed rocks with the sidewalls ect.

I had the Maxxis Bighorns in 255/85/16 and I just replaced them with Cooper Discoverer STTs in 315/75/16 (the STTs are the M/Ts and the STs are the A/Ts). I've only had the Coopers on for a week so I can't really compare them too much, but so far the Coopers are noticeably quieter than the Bighorns on the highway.

My Bighorns didn't last that long (~20K/1.5 years), but I go through tires twice as fast as most people since I live in the mtns. I was very pleased with the Bighorns off road though, they stick to the rocks very well. However, I hated them in the snow. They did ok in deep stuff, but on packed snow, they just spin and polish the snow to a nice shine.

The STTs have pretty darn good reviews (and I know some people who loved them in the snow). I can already tell they are great in the dirt and rocks so my vote is for the Coopers.
