So I'm officially confused about my wiring harness....

Hey all, i've been lurking for months, and hating to be the dude that posts his first message up and everyone thinks they will never see him again. But either way, here goes. I have a 2002 4runner Limited with the 6 disc changer and the tape deck. I'm attempting to put in my aftermarket deck, ordered it from Crutchfield, got the 87+ Geo/Toyota deck. Supposedly it's the one that is supposed to work... I tried for 4 hours to figure out why the harness won't connect to the new unit... connected all the wires, and the harness that is supposed to connect to the existing wiring, doesn't fit. Anyone else had this problem? Am I going to have to hardwire it in? Because, i can't seem to get a straight answer from anyone. If nothing else, when i get some light tommorow afternoon i will get some pictures up... I had to call it a night before i broke something... frustration for the win.

Anyway, again, sorry for the long post, and the even more rude "first post is a question" but I couldn't lurk anymore. I'm completely stumped.

Do you have the factory amp? If so, I recall seeing something the aftermarket harness connecting after the amp, so it would bypass the amp completely to work with an aftermarket headunit.

Just a suggestion and hopefully it works out, if not, hopefully a third gen owner can chime in and point you in the right direction.

Hey i just installed my headunit to my 2002 Toyota 4Runner Limited

Okay so i have a pioneer deck so i bought the wiring to hookup from my Pioneer deck and then i bought the TOYOTA WIRING HARNESS to connect to my 4Runner's cable that went into the factory radio. when i hook up the toyota harness then i connect the ending wires to the pioneer deck's wires.

Thats what i did and it worked..

Did you speak with anyone at crutchfield or just place the order? When you do it should only give you things that work with your car, also it will pop up with attachments which will help with the install. If you cancelled on those that might be your problem. I would just call a support guy and explain whats up. they seem to know there stuff. now the directions the give you on the other hand are not always the best when it comes to the wiring side of things.

As has been hinted at, make sure you have disconnected the harness from the amp, not the radio head unit.

The limiteds have an "upgraded" radio, and the amplifier is a seperate unit mounted slightly behind and below the stereo. The harness(s) that plugs in at the bottom (as mounted) of the amp should fit into the new stereo (two plugs - one is 10 pins, the other is 6 pins). The harness coming from the amp to the factory stereo won't fit into anything else!

Haha, I feel like an idiot. I realized that as soon as i looked down farther... got her hooked up, she sounds nice.
Rocking the Clarion DUZ385SAT, Getting set for some components here hopefully here in the next week. I'm not used to stock stereo amplifiers I guess.

Regardless, thanks for all of the help. I'll get some pictures up this evening. The 2-din design looks super clean.

Whats up Morgend - I noticed you put a Clarion DUZ385SAT in your 4runner. I have an '04 4runner Ltd. and was just about to buy the same head unit. I was wondering if you could give me some details on how it looks, sounds, easy to install, etc. Did you keep your stock speakers or did you upgrade? Any info you can give would be killer, I have been looking everywhere for info on this unit and if it is a good fit for 4runners. Finally found your postings. Thanks alot.
